Hello! Welcome to the Earthbound/Mother topic! This place is friendly to all Scratch users, so just type up a post! If you're a Mother fan, then you've probably found one of the last few places on modern Scratch where you can talk about this fantastic game series. Before posting on this topic, I suggest reading this whole first post first. Yes, it is tedious, but you just have to read it once and you're fine

There will be spoilers on this topic though. If you have NOT played Any of the Mother games so far, don't worry! Scroll down to see some information about the main series games, and two hacks you might be interested in trying if you've played the games already!

What Do You “Discuss” on this Forum?
You've probably come here if you really like the series. Well, you're most likely going to like it here! You may talk about anything Earthbound. Shippings, possibly crossover ideas, interesting videos, the music, characters, “what if” scenarios, just anything that is related to Earthbound. If you're wondering about Undertale (since the creator of the popular indie game Toby Fox based it off the Mother series) and if you can discuss it, there is a rule in the rules section about it. Please take a look at it.

What Is the Mother Series?
Surprisingly, the Mother/Earthbound series isn't mainly about mothers. The Mother series consists of 3 roleplaying games: Mother 1/Earthbound Beginnings, Mother 2/Earthbound, and Mother 3 (which doesn't have an official international release yet, so it doesn't have it's “Earthbound” name yet). The first Mother game to release out of Japan was Mother 2. But to not cause confusion, Mother 2 was re-titled Earthbound.
The games were written by Shigesato Itoi and published by Nintendo. After 3 games were made, Mr. Itoi stopped making Earthbound games. There is a fan game being made called Mother 4, but it is not an official game. And then there is the infamous Earthbound Halloween Hack made by Toby Fox (which is also unofficial), which is a more dark and scary version of Mother 2.

Where Can I Play These Games?
Earthbound Beginnings and Earthbound are available on the Wii U virtual console. Earthbound can also be found on the 3DS XL EShop and the Super Nintendo (SNES). If you can read Japanese, Earthbound Beginnings was originally for the famicom. But be warned about Earthbound/Mother 2: the area before you fight the final boss and Giygas are pretty disturbing. So take caution before playing Mother 2. But other than those two things, it's a pretty friendly game.
Mother 3 is not released outside of Japan yet, but there is a fan translation made by Clyde “Tomato” Mandelin (a professional game translator). You can look it up, and download it. You will need a emulator to download it, though. There is a page on this fan translation on the Earthbound Fandom Wikipedia page (which you can find here) if you want to know more about it. (I also suggest you look into the fan translation's history before downloading the translation.) The last time I checked, the translation is not illegal. There is very little swearing, and the ending will be heart-wrenching. So play at your own risk!

The Mother 4 fan game (as of 5/31/16) is not out yet. (If it is, tell me so I can edit this!)

The Earthbound Halloween Hack is a game you can play using an emulator. But BE WARNED: there is lots of swearing, disturbing images, areas, and enemies, and disturbing lines of dialogue. The hack would be more pleasing for mature audiences, even if it is the first game of Toby's to feature Megalovania, so don't play it if you can be easily disturbed by certain things or you're under a mature age.

What About Undertale?
Yes, I have mentioned Undertale. And I bet you're going to ask “can we talk about that?” If you wish to talk about Undertale, I suggest going to the Undertale forum, despite Undertale being inspired by The Earthbound/Mother series. You can mention it, but don't make this forum turn from a forum about Earthbound to a forum about Undertale. This is not the Undertale forum. But we won't hate you if you mention it or like it.

Before you start posting, please remember to:
-Be kind to other users on this forum and respect their opinions and ships.
-Do not post anything that comes across as “inappropriate” or “disturbing” (including videos and art. Music like “Giygas stirs” would be fine, but make sure there is no picture of Giygas in it. I would normally allow you to do that, but because of a few reasons, it's best not to post pictures of Giygas. If you seen a fan made song about it, make sure there is no swears or anything that is inappropriate.)
-If you don't like Mother/Earthbound, don't just post “I HATE EARTHBOUND” in the replies. You can just leave.
-If you happen to post art that you didn't draw, please credit the people who drew it.
-Do not say that “Ness is Sans”. Toby has proven that theory wrong, and saying that might upset many people
-“No crying until the end.”
