Recently, there's been some talk in the “Rethinking the Scratch 2.0 Paint Editor” discussion about the Eraser Tool being removed from the vector editor. Instead of posting there I'm creating a new discussion because I'd also like to explain all of the features of the Reshape Tool.

The Eraser Tool was able to erase parts of shapes and lines, but you haven't lost that ability. When you use the Reshape Tool you can cut open a shape or remove a section of a line.

This is how the Reshape Tool works:
* Click on a line or border of a shape where there is no point to add a point.
- Holding down shift will add a line segment that is curved on a straight segment or one that is straight on a curved segment
* Drag a point to move it and the line that passes through it
- Moving an endpoint to the other end of the same unclosed shape will close the shape (now you can color the inside!)
- Moving an endpoint to an endpoint of another unclosed shape will connect them (the new merged shape will have the same color and thickness of the shape you were editing)
* Clicking on an point, without moving it, will remove it.
- If you have the shift key down while doing this the shape will be cut (disconnected) where the point had been.
- Cutting open a closed shape will remove the fill color if it was filled.
* Press the delete key to remove the shape
* Pressing the zoom in button will zoom in on the shape you are editing. This can be good for making precise changes.

I'd be happy to answer any Reshape Tool (or general paint editor) questions, just reply! The ability to cut shapes was just added in the version we deployed today (version 248).

Vector is my favorite! It's great because if you just can't get that ear all completely right, just reshape it! I just don't really like it when you draw like a star or something and it gives you those big points, I just think they aren't all that pretty. But Vector is pretty great!

This update is all well and good, but what the editor really needs is a “set to perfect center” button - finding the center of a circle you just made is crazy difficult using the “set costume center” tool

and while on the subject of the reshape tool, there should be a key combination that allows you to turn a line into a Belzier curve, currently the only way to make a curved line (as far as I'm aware) is to first create a circle and then remove every point you don't need for the shape - this is can obviously be very frustrating for even simple shapes.
