No, this suggestion is going the other way. Instead of giving more priorities to older kids, younger kids get their priorities removed. It's a different thing.

Yes, there are plenty. Every project with an animated thumbnail is marked NFE, by the way. And there are plenty of those. NFE means that it doesn't appear on the front page and rarely in the search results. There's no easy way to find out if a project is NFE though. As of now NFE projects aren't hidden from anyone, they are only hidden from the front page so they're harder to access.

This seems like it's not that good of an implementation. This is like making an important computer play an annoying song every time someone uses it, rather than adding a password. It may work, but it's not practical, and not fail-safe.

90% ARE kids. What about suggesting the opposite? a version for older ones because it is the minority?

Why has this suggestion not been locked?

This suggestion…

Violates a sticky
Is frowned upon by the community
Only pleases a tiny fraction of the community
Breaks the spirit of Scratch.

I think this should be locked, before someone comes and causes a flame war.

An educational-only version of scratch would be fine, but this violates what Scratch is about (Imagine, Program, Share)

Scratch was made for kids to develop their programming skills and share it with others. How many people under 11 play on Scratch anyway. If the community was divided, people would get a lot less loves and feedback on their projects, because about 70% of the community is not on the kid-mode part of the site.

We're thinking about something like this, but this idea is only being floated around for the upcoming student/educator account system where the teacher may not want NFE'd projects accessible to their students at all. You guys won't be affected.

The reasoning of applying this idea to the student/teacher accounts but not necessarily normal accounts is the issue on what some will consider to be okay for kids on the Scratch website - that line is more conservative-heavy in the classroom environment, but not so much outside of the classroom environment where the position of this line can vary between different cultures and backgrounds.

The tricky part would be trying to figure out what happens if someone with a student account makes a project that ends up being NFE'd that would cause it to be unviewable by their classmates and teacher, a big issue especially if the project is part of a classroom assignment.

An easy fix for that… Allow NFE projects by students to be seen by teachers, and then the teacher can click approve or disapprove. If it is disapproved, three things happen:
The project is deleted and the student account is alerted
The student account is muted and unable to see projects unless allowed by a teacher account
and
The student is blocked from his/her My Stuff folder as well as the editor until the teacher releases these restrictions.
If it is approved, the project is treated as FE for all viewing purposes for that class.]
