I think you should be able to choose what sprite is default when you create a project, or, have the option to have none show up. This would be changable in the account settings. Though, if you like the little guy as default, he can be the original sprite that shows up. You should also be able to draw a sprite to be your default one when you make a project. Most likely, you're not even going to use the Scratch Cat, so why not change it to something you will?

No Support! I like Scratch cat and its like the mascot!

Support if it's optional and off at default. It seems quite time-consuming (even though it's only a few seconds) to click the scissor icon and delete the cat.

Support side: Support if it's optional. It could be useful as the scratch cat to new scratchers, but scratchers don't really need it.
No support: It only takes 5 seconds to find the scissor tool and cut the sprite. What's the difference?
