A mute button?
It'd be nice to have it in the right-click menu so it doesn't clutter the PP.
We don't want to have the project player look like an airplane either

Well,I can show how to make the programming right so that it will mute, (I will also tell how to unmute).

Yeah, same here. Maybe a master volume for Scratch? Scratchers almost never make these things themselves…I never knew you could do that, thank you very much, sir.

Well, it's actually a great idea! Even though you can use set volume to 0

I dunno - when you add a special mute button, that means that some amount of people will hit mute and then forget about it, and then get stuck going through their system settings trying to find the problem, and never unmute.A plane?
It's interesting - most posts in this forum are about increasing complexity. Few people seem to realize how much of Scratch's success is due to its simplicity. If we accepted all 6 of the new block suggestions I've read in the past 5 minutes, and all of the other UI additions as well, pretty soon your Scratch screen will look like this:
You may be interested in more complexity now, but I'll wager that you came here and got interested because Scratch was simple, and didn't make you feel like you needed to understand 73 options and 42 new buttons just to make the cat spin around a time or two.

…Honestly it angers me very very very deeply when I'm unable to control the volume on a rather loud project, and I immediately skip over it. No love its, no favorites. Nothing. And I don't even care about the reviews or ratings. I will not have my speakers hijacked.Exactly my thinking.

Sometimes I really don't understand people's thinking when they add music. I won't name and shame, but recently… I let my feelings known about some choices of soundtrack.+1… again……Honestly it angers me very very very deeply when I'm unable to control the volume on a rather loud project, and I immediately skip over it. Another vote in support for a general mute button. I'm probably interested in the sound in fewer than 10% of the projects I look at.

This has to be one of the suggestions I support the most, along with the ignore list.
I don't quite understand Lightnin's point, adding a mute button won't ruin Scratch's simplicity at all, everyone knows what a mute button does, and I don't think that there are too many suggestions that suggest features around the project (i.e. where the green flag, fullscreen and stop buttons are).
In case we're not on the same wavelength, I think a mute button like YouTube uses would do the trick. It's right next to the play button so it's hard to miss. Currently, it's pretty much impossible to mute a project while listening to music on a website like YouTube or just listening to online commentary or radio, unless you open multiple browsers and use the computer's sound mixer.

I think the best way to implement is to place a slider (just like youtube's) just to the left of the flag/stop sign. It should simply reset to full volume for every project, just like refreshing the page refreshes the variables of the project. No need to complicate things by keeping scratch projects muted. This lets us turn down the volume and mute it if we wish.
Simplicity.

+1.
It's annoying when I can't hear the video I have running in the background while I'm playing the game.

I hate to support a rival to Scratch, but I was looking at the copied, paid-for version of Scratch (can't remember what it's called), and that has a mute button and I don't see any problem with it.

Isn't this why Realtek High Definition Audio provides a mixer?
