• Uninstall offline editor
  
• Install older version of Air http://download.macromedia.com/air/mac/download/19.0/AdobeAIR.tbz2
  
• Install scratch from https://scratch.mit.edu/scratch2download/

Hmm interesting,

I think for linux it is the prepackaged .air install which is much older than Air 20 . You shouldn't need to install Air.

Thank you for this “air 19” workaround for offline scratch!
Before knowing about it I found an alternative workaround and I wonder which solution is better.

My workaround:
On a (new retina) imac I installed the offline scratch for mac osX 10.5 ("Mac OS 10.5 & Older - Download http://scratch.mit.edu/scratchr2/static/sa/Scratch-441.2.air“)

This gives me a working scratch, version 441.2, so I'm up-to-date, I think. Does this ”10.5 & older“ installer perhaps provide old air?

PS: I found that the ”10.5 & older" offline scratch installer was halting while trying to delete an older scratch that it found on my server. The installer told me that it wanted to replace an older scratch, which was cool, but didn't tell me where it had found the scratch, which would have helped. The log file in console showed me what was wrong and after I unmounted the server the install then proceeded smoothly. (I was keeping that old scratch on the server on purpose in case the new one didn't work.)

Yes the .air is an older .Air version. The only limitation would be (I believe) that it does not support 3d mode.
