[LOGGED]Scratch Offline Editor Will not launch on Mac
My browser / operating system: MacOS Macintosh X 10.10.5, Safari 9.0.1, Flash 19.0 (release 0)
I've downloaded the latest version of the Scratch Offline Editor and Adobe Air today, and when I attempt to launch the program it immediately closes. I've Uninstalled and reinstalled the software as per the directions on the website.
I've directed the school that wishes to use this program to use the online editor for the time being. But the offline editor is sometimes necessary as we have lost internet access or the network is overloaded with all of the users that use.
Is there something I'm missing?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling adobe air? My browser / operating system: MacOS Macintosh X 10.10.5, Safari 9.0.1, Flash 19.0 (release 0)

Also, when you open the browser does it buffer then crash? Does anything pop up on the screen?
Does it open the editor window at all?

I am having a similar problem. The error I am getting is from Adobe Air (after I install Adobe Air, when I am trying to install Scratch 2)
“The required native extension is missing for this application. Try re-installing or contacting the publisher for assistance”
I am running El Capitan (10.11.1).
I have tried rebooting, reinstalling both Air and Scratch, and still no luck.

I'm not getting that error, it attempts to open the offline editor and then closes almost instantly.

No errors pop up or anything? I'm not getting that error, it attempts to open the offline editor and then closes almost instantly.
Try going to a computer with an older version of air.

No Errors pop up at all with the latest version, it just opens and closes. I downloaded the previous version of the Offline editor and adobe air and it works just fine. It just keeps asking to update itself.

Well, I think that's a solution, correct? No Errors pop up at all with the latest version, it just opens and closes. I downloaded the previous version of the Offline editor and adobe air and it works just fine. It just keeps asking to update itself.

Unfortunately I cannot. We have a Casper server, from JAMF Software, where I've packaged up all the software our school district currently uses. The version I had previously packaged up was v436. I was in the process of updating the software to the latest version when I ran into the issue. I'm just glad I hadn't replaced the software on the server yet, so I could test if a previous version still worked.
I'm also happy that this issue has been logged with the programmers and hopefully the issue can be resolved soon.

offline scratch 2 (441.1 and 441.2) for recent mac os wouldn't run
(installed from “Scratch-441.2.dmg”)
WORKAROUND: offline scratch “for mac osX 10.5 and older” DOES install and work, so far.
I'm running mac osx 10.11.2, on new retina imac. Fresh computer, fresh install of latest osx, flash, and air (as of 2015 Dec 10).
Newest scratch for newer mac os would complain at startup about missing “native libraries”. I tried removing air and re-installing. I tried removing scratch and re-installing. Tested that yes, Flash is running and I've got latest air. No luck running new offline scratch. I tried running older versions of offline scratch 2– some of them would run when mounted from a server, but then wouldn't run when copied to this computer. Weird.
–Mike
Edited: ah-hah, I found a workaround (install the offline scratch for mac osX 10.5 and more antique) but now I see that helpful workaround info at http://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/172671/ which suggests installing air 19 instead of air 20. I think I'll try that.
PS: I found that the offline scratch installer (for mac 10.5 and more ancient) is jamming up while trying to delete an old scratch that it found on my server. That's not cool: I was keeping that old scratch on purpose in case the new one didn't work.

Did you try that download for air? It worked for someone else.
I'm assuming you reinstalled the same Air version, which seems to be the main problem in the first place

Technically I did try a previous version of Adobe Air when I downgraded to a previous version of Scratch, using our Casper Software server. The students either used the online version or the Offline version that was already installed on the computers, because the teacher who requested the newest software needed it yesterday.
I may try the newest version of scratch with Adobe Air 19 at a later point. But for now we have the issue logged with the Scratch team, and what I have currently installed still works.

good news:
Latest Scratch Offline (442) and the newest adobe air 20 (installer dated 24 dec 2015) seem to be working on mac with osx 10.11.2
I was hesitant to try it, and had to install air twice before it worked, but the new versions seem good so far compared to 441.
Thank you to the scratch team and the helpful people online.
