Virtual Reality
Discuss the emerging technology of virtual reality here. My dream setup would probably be:

Oculus Rift (commercial version): 1080p+ 3D head mounted viewing w/ tilt tracking.
Virtuix Omni: Omnidirectional treadmill with leg tracking. Also tracks crouching and jumping.
Sixense Stem: Full body tracking system with rumble feedback
Tactical Haptics Controller: Haptic feedback (simulates forces on hands, such as pull on a fishing rod).

Virtual Reality
My biggest dream for virtual reality is for education purposes. Amazing 3D unbelievably-real games will be cool, but I can't wait to see children throughout their childhood getting to walk with the dinosaurs and learn about what their studying as if they were there. I see a ton of potential for this technology in that area.

Virtual Reality
Lol that is genius i was bored the other day so i made a hole in a cardboard box, taped my phone to the end of it inside, put it on my head so all i could see was the phone screen. i then set my ipod to bluetooth the camera to it, and put the ipod in the corner of my room. i then was able to walk around my room and see in 3rd person. it was weird. it was a bit like watching security camera footage. i also tried taping my ipod to the back of the box so i saw behind me and after about 20 minutes of using it, it seemed somewhat normal just walking backwards and stuff. i also tried taping the ipod to my hand so my eyes were basically in my hand and that was pretty cool. i didn't need to move around to see what i wanted. and to like look round a corner or into a room you just stick your hand in.
i guess that's kind of virtual reality. maybe not though, since it isn't so virtual, since i'm seeing real stuff.

Smart! I'm going to try that assuming I can borrow mom's phone. i was bored the other day so i made a hole in a cardboard box, taped my phone to the end of it inside, put it on my head so all i could see was the phone screen. i then set my ipod to bluetooth the camera to it, and put the ipod in the corner of my room. i then was able to walk around my room and see in 3rd person. it was weird. it was a bit like watching security camera footage. i also tried taping my ipod to the back of the box so i saw behind me and after about 20 minutes of using it, it seemed somewhat normal just walking backwards and stuff. i also tried taping the ipod to my hand so my eyes were basically in my hand and that was pretty cool. i didn't need to move around to see what i wanted. and to like look round a corner or into a room you just stick your hand in.

Reminds me of this very strange project someone made. It's like that, except two people ^^

Virtual Reality is sonmething I have wanted to happen for a really long time. Glad it's finally getting put together, eh?
(Also, I'm very sorry but the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread was SAO/Sword Art Online. Once again, I'm very sorry.)

huh, my dream for that is that it wont be that expensive.
or dangerous.
anyway, it would be cool to use it to go through 3D games, like minecraft/roblox!
wait, how would you use items/weapons/tools?

Virtual Reality
The youth department at my library has been in talks about trying to get one of these setups if the budget miraculously allows it. So I hope they don't break easily and aren't hard to sanitize. It will be fun to try out and plan lessons around but since we'll only have one it'll be a challenge.
