Update on volunteer programs

Since we retired the community moderators program, we have been working on developing new programs for Scratchers to help out in the community. We wanted to share a few updates about these new programs.

We've asked LiFaytheGoblin, P110, and ErnieParke to serve as the first Scratch Mentors, starting in early 2014. In addition to preparing for the Scratch Mentor role, we'll also be preparing to launch the Scratch Helper program, which will offer several ways Scratchers can help in the community–such as welcoming new Scratchers, providing feedback on new projects, or helping people debug their projects. This program will start in early 2014 too. We look forward to offering these roles in the next few months, so stay tuned!

I knew ErnieParke would make it.

Congratulations! I'm really happy to see something like this launch!

So, Helpers aid Scratchers with debugging projects but what do Mentors do?

Aww… To know that there is such a kind and supportive Scratcher warms me, and one I didn't even expect. ;)

Mentors do quite a bit, to be truthful. Primarily at the moment, we give the ST feedback on issues they've been working on. For example, we're currently talking about what Scratch Mentors/Helpers should be. We're also given the dual-responsibility of helping Scratchers, and we work on site-wide projects (SDS's, for example).

Does that clarify things for you? Also, nice user pic.

Thanks a lot! I can't wait to see how this turns out as well. ;)

Thinking about the future,

I'm not impatient, well…. yeah… I just can't wait, scratch is getting bigger and bigger and so is the scratch community, earlier this year, I was a small scratcher who had around 20 followers (well… they were called friends when I had that amount) now, I'm a curator of the welcoming comittee, I am a former curator of the front page and transition team member, have had 3 projects featured and am soon going to be becoming a mentor!!

It's weird, that all happened within less than a year!!
Can't wait!

Thanks,

I guess that will come in a future post! But I guess ST will do it how and when they make their minds up? Anyway, it really isn't for me to say

Thank you I feel so honored, and I can't really believe this all until the project really starts^^ But til then, I'll enjoy my life as a normal Scratcher and, along with the other mentors, help the Scratch Team develop ideas

Congratulations, everyone! I don't know P110 that well, but LiFayTheGoblin and ErnieParke are excellent choices. LiFay is really friendly on the language forums (if anyone hangs out there anymore…), and ErnieParke is awesome on the Wiki. Scratch on, guys!

Yeah I only really became known over the past 7 months-ish. I am a wiki editor (but people seem to always beat me to it) and I'm a curator of the welcoming committee with LiFay but most scratchers who know what they are doing don't really look around there

I spend quite a bit of time here: http://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/search/?action=show_unanswered looking for people that need help, so I'm not really seen that often in popular places

I am so happy to be able to contribute to this awesome community in such a great way *-* ^-^

And just so you and everyone knows it: P110 is a very, very good choice! He helped so much with the Welcoming Committee, the Transition Team and he's always friendly and helpful

Good choices. Congratulations ErnieParke (ricarose, you left of the e the same way Lightnin left off nXIII's I), P110, and LiFaytheGoblin.

Can't wait to hear more about the program.

EDIT: And i left off the “f” in “off”…
