Each thumbnail is coded in the form {url=link to project}{IMG}link to image{/IMG}{/url}, where the curly brackets are actual square brackets. Click on “Quote” down right below to see the code of this post.

How to make a thumbnail:

1. Make a small movie (10 seconds) of your project
1a. I used the free software active presenter for screen recording
1b. I exported the movie as avi file
2. Convert the avi to gif
2a I did this with Corel Photo Paint (can anybody recommend a free software for this?)
2b I rescaled the movie to thumbnail size (100x75) and reduced colors as much as possible (depends on the graphics, you can reduce to 64 or even down to 5 colors) - final gif size is around 100kB
3. Upload gif to an image file hoster that words for the Scratch forum
3a. for me this was tinypic (free, no age limit)

Edit: changed links and thumbnails to different ones from my actual signature in order to not annoy people with the same thumbnails twice.

Putting a custom picture in your signature
Let's say you had a cool banner you made for your game, and now you want to advertise it in your signature. I will teach you how to do this.

Step One:Sign up at PhotoBucket.com or any other photo hosting website (tinypic.com, imgur.com,ect.)
Step Two: Upload the Photo you wish to make your signature. This can be anything (a banner, something to show off your art, ect.)
Step Three: When you are viewing the photo you uploaded, on the right hand side of the screen, you will see URL's copy the one that says “Direct Link”
Step Four: Go to scratch discuss page and click the “Change signature” at the bottom of the page.
Step Five: Click on the picture icon. It will open a text box asking for the URL. Right click in the box and click paste
Step Six: Click the Preview icon to make sure it works.
Step Seven: Click submit and be happy with your cool new signature!

Making the custom picture in your signature link to something
So now you have that banner for your game in your signature, so what! If you want people to get to your game, your going to have to separate your link, and that's not cool. But do you?

Step One: Go to the scratch discuss page and click “Change signature”
Step Two: Delete what you currently have in you signature
Step Three: Create a new link (the Chain Link icon)
Step Four: Type the URL to whatever you want ( if you were following my example it would be the game)
Step Five: This is where it gets complicated, follow closely
Step Six: Once you have made your link it will now say “your text to link here” delete that
Step Seven: Your text cursor should be in between to boxes one says url with brackets around it and the other says url/ also with brackets around it
Step Eight: With your mouse in the proper position (as stated in step 7) click the picture icon
Step Nine: Type the url of the picture ( in our example it would be the banner)
Step Ten: Click the preview button and see if it works. If it doesn't, you probably messed up somewhere. Read this again to make sure you got it right
