The Colour Divide- Red
My name is Red
I know my name would say other wise but I am not a Red.
I am a Violet.
I am me.
At school they tell us that beyond the gates is colourless and we cant survive that.
But that's not what I think,
I think there is something more something they are not telling us, but why?
All I want to know is what's out there so the day of the test is my opportunity to get out, I want to fail and I will fail.

The day of the test
“Come on Red wake up” Scarlet is beating me with her pillow.
“Why?”
“Its the test today stupid”
“Oh, oh yeah!”
“Come on your not still thinking about failing are you?” she asks looking me deep in the eye.
I know I should be honest with her but I cant if I was anyone else she would be able to tell if I where lying. But I've always been a good liar.
“No. You where right it was a stupid idea” I say staring back at her,
she smiles looking satisfied.
As the rest of the orphanage wakes up its filled with a buzz of excitement and anxiousness.
“Remember this time last year” a cold voice whispers in my ear.
Images flash through my mind, screams echo in my ears, but that's not the worse of it.
She knows but still hasn't told. If the Magicians find out I will be banished for sure.
But that's what I want so she wont tell no matter how much she wants to be rid of me, no matter how much she hates me she will never tell.
“Good morning Lota” I say turning and smiling at her
“Are you excited?” I ask happily-not giving her the reaction she craves.
“Well I am actually, very excited to get violet and watch you get red.”
“Great” I reply sarcastically,
She smiled and sashayed away. The doors to our dorm swung wide open and mistress Alana strode in she was a red and Lota says that I will have her job when I grow up because she is a red and I will be to.
But I take no notice because I know I wont be around that long- because I will fail the test.
Mistress Alana took us through the city towards the testing hall.
Every step of the way I was rethinking my choice to leave but then me and lota linked eyes and my decision was set. I looked forward and tried to imagine how others would do and keep my focus of my self.
There it was looming above us the Great testing hall.
It was a beautiful building with intricate architecture and gorgeous oak doors they slowly opened and we all took a deep breath and stepped over the threshold.
In side there are groups of 12 year olds scattered around the hall. Me and Scarlet stood together at the back surveying the crowd.
“So what do you think you will get?” Scarlet asks me
“I don't know probably red.”
“Come on Red don't let Lota get you down.”
“Yeah I suppose.” I reply “ What colour do you think you will get?”
“I'm not sure maybe yellow or green.” She replied slowly
The doors to the testing chamber opened and a voice said please proceed to the testing chamber.
Inside it was filled with rainbow pillars, we where told to place our hand on a pillar, so we did.
The Vision
I opened my eyes.
I was standing in a desert.
A desert filled with bodies.
Luckily they weren't dead just in a coma.
“Be Brave” the testers voice echo's through the desert.
Then I look forward and see me - but in black and white.
Me colourless,
I know what I have to do mirror her,
FAIL.
She walks towards me.
I'm not sure what to do.
So I do nothing just like I planed.
A ball of grey magic swirls around her fist.
I can feel it inside me trying desperately to brake free.
I mustn't let it.
My shadow throws it towards me and I let it hit me.
Struggling to keep it in I take a deep breath.
“I wont fight you” I say to my self
“Yes you will”it replies hitting me off my feet.
I'm now on the floor almost crying in pain but I must fail.
“You did this” my shadow tells me, “you caused this.”
And I let go.
Slowly I open my eyes Scarlet is leaning over me.
I passed out.
Which means I failed.
I then become aware of a pain in my hand, Im lead on it
“Well apparently you were so bad at magic you couldn't even earn a red”
well Lota seams pleased-Scarlet's not.
“Wait a minute that's the wrong hand she is sat on the other one” Scarlet bursts out happily,
“Still one chance to get red” Lota grins
Before I look I want to see what they got;
Scarlet-blue well done.
Lota-Indigo HA HA maybe you weren't as good as you made out.
The moment of truth.
Did I really fail.
I pull my arm out from under me.
There almost burning my arm,
is my bracelet,
my violet bracelet.
That was 3 years ago.
Dear Diary
“Mary you make a distraction”
“why me and not you?”
“Have you broken in to the magicians towers before?”
“No but…”
“Exactly,”
“Remind me why I signed up to this,”
“Because I'm irresistible and you cant help but want to help me in all this.”
“NO Its not! Its because you promised me answers.”
“Oh yeah. Then what do you think I am doing?!”
Red was hanging off a roof upside-down,
“Dangling of a roof,” I offered
“well if you do your thing I'll do mine and I wont be on this roof will I !?”
I sighed and lathed well don't let it be said there's nothing special about her I thought
Falling is not my favourite sensation but still Mary always comes through ((Eventually)) and there it is a shot of bright yellow magic shoot up from the floor and pushes me up an guides me to the roof of the Magicians Towers.
I then Slide down the wall and jump through the window-no magicians Marys distraction must be working.
After a quick survey of the room I'm not to far from where I want to be.
I run down the stairwell, skidding to a halt when I see the door.
Slowly I stick my head through and look around phew no one there.I stepped through the glossy, wooden door and looked around.
It had changed a bit since the month before I guess now they are getting ready for the apprenticeships program to start in 2 days time.
At the back of the room there's what I'm looking for, the chest of the colourless.
All of the other boxes in the room are worn down from the thousands of times that the magicians had been through them. But this chest was glossy and new it looked like it had been bought the day before.
Another difference was this chest had a massive magic proof lock holding it tightly shut. Engraved on the lock was a riddle it seems to change every time I come here I'm not sure how it works wether the magicians change it or it changes for each person.
This time it read,
'Show me prof if your mighty magic
Dam now this is one of those times when it would be good to use magic,
Then I have an idea. I think of the saddest but most strong moment I can and transport my self back there.
A tear swells up in my eye and roles down my cheek. It drops of my chin and hits the padlock gently.
The padlock glows violet and unlocks.
Slowly i lift up the lid the moment of truth; it took me months to find out what was in here and now I know and will find out.
The chest it full of brown and beige folders labelled with things like ‘enchanted stones’ ‘colourless cities’.
I grab it all and quietly close the lid. Sliding the folders into my satchel I notice the lock is still violet engraved on it are the words
'Insert new riddle here
So I do “Show me your true colours.”
I guarantee none of them will be able to own that.
Now the hardest part getting out.
I have one thing left from her grandad his incantation book; he had just been a red farmer so be developed good own line of magic through incantations. I'm actually getting pretty good at them. The one I plan to use controls the wind and allows me to glide to the floor.
“Windus safestous passageway too dawn”
And I jump out the window can fell the wind beneath me carrying me to the ground.
“Wow that was an amazing sensation” I say flopping onto the lush green grass that fill the towers grounds.
“Well how did it go” I jump up in shock but its just Mary.
“Well” I reply “Why don't we go discuss that at our place”

The day of the test
“Come on Red wake up” Scarlet is beating me with her pillow.
“Why?”
“Its the test today stupid”
“Oh, oh yeah!”
“Come on your not still thinking about failing are you?” she asks looking me deep in the eye.
I know I should be honest with her but I cant if I was anyone else she would be able to tell if I where lying. But I've always been a good liar.
“No. You where right it was a stupid idea” I say staring back at her,
she smiles looking satisfied.
As the rest of the orphanage wakes up its filled with a buzz of excitement and anxiousness.
“Remember this time last year” a cold voice whispers in my ear.
Images flash through my mind, screams echo in my ears, but that's not the worse of it.
She knows but still hasn't told. If the Magicians find out I will be banished for sure.
But that's what I want so she wont tell no matter how much she wants to be rid of me, no matter how much she hates me she will never tell.
“Good morning Lota” I say turning and smiling at her
“Are you excited?” I ask happily-not giving her the reaction she craves.
“Well I am actually, very excited to get violet and watch you get red.”
“Great” I reply sarcastically,
She smiled and sashayed away. The doors to our dorm swung wide open and mistress Alana strode in she was a red and Lota says that I will have her job when I grow up because she is a red and I will be to.
But I take no notice because I know I wont be around that long- because I will fail the test.
Mistress Alana took us through the city towards the testing hall.
Every step of the way I was rethinking my choice to leave but then me and lota liked eyes and my decision was set. I looked forward and tried to imagine how others would do and keep my focus of my self.
There it was looming above us the Great testing hall.
It was a beautiful building with intricate architecture and gorgeous oak doors they slowly opened and we all took a deep breath and stepped over the threshold.
In side there are groups of 12 year olds scattered around the hall. Me and Scarlet stood together at the back surveying the crowd.
“So what do you think you will get?” Scarlet asks me
“I don't know probably red.”
“Come on Red don't let Lota get you down.”
“Yeah I suppose.” I reply “ What colour do you think you will get?”
“I'm not sure maybe orange or green.” She replied slowly
The doors to the testing chamber opened and a voice said please proceed to the testing chamber.
Inside it was filled with rainbow pillars, we where told to place our hand on a pillar, so we did.
The Vision
I opened my eyes.
I was standing in a desert.
A desert filled with bodies.
Luckily they weren't dead just in a coma.
“Be Brave” the testers voice echo's through the desert.
Then I look forward and see me - but in black and white.
Me colourless,
I know what I have to do mirror her,
FAIL.
She walks towards me.
I'm not sure what to do.
So I do nothing just like I planed.
A ball of grey magic swirls around her fist.
I can feel it inside me trying desperately to brake free.
I mustn't let it.
My shadow throws it towards me and I let it hit me.
Struggling to keep it in I take a deep breath.
“I wont fight you” I say to my self
“Yes you will”it replies hitting me off my feet.
I'm now on the floor almost crying in pain but I must fail.
“You did this” my shadow tells me, “you caused this.”
And I let go.
