maintenance during school hours
yes. of course we are having problems in Indonesia.Yeah, but most people live in the USWe love SCRATCH! We have about 400 kids in our area enrolled in our after school code clubs in the greater Seattle area! When SCRATCH schedules maintenance for what they think of as Wednesday night (6pm EST)…that is actually right at 3pm Pacific Time…exactly during our club time...Please remember that i and some other scratchers live in Indonesia. So if the server downtime is 03:00 AM there, we will have a downtime at around 03:00 PM. Some scratchers still online at that time. So i can't say either support or no. (Even semi support)This happened soo many times last Spring that we nearly had a rebelion. Off line version is not usually an option when using the school computers, so we are stuck playing “un plugged” type coding games…
Please remember your West Coast after school Scratchers when going down for maintenance! Thanks,
yeah, a little bit more presentage than other countries, like 60% us and 40% others (or more)
so the 40% others is having problems?
but i'm not online on vacations (yet other Indo scratchers is still using scratch)

Perhaps downtime could be on Sunday, when schools are closed and extracurricular programs are less likely to be using Scratch. No!
The weekends are days when 1,000,000(?) Scratchers are online!

Eh, no support. There are users from all around the world who use scratch at different times of the day, so no matter where you moved it it would still be a problem. Even if you decided to just focus on america and move it to a time that is out of school hours, there are still users at home on scratch who'd be inconvenienced.

I think Sat. is a good day for downtime - it doesn't interfere with school activities. Besides, Scratch isn't a major part of peoples lives.

Now it's the 2/3 part of My life !!! And the rest of them is music, piano playing, violin, music composition. So scratch is a major part of my life (Combined with programming). And there's NEVER a good time for server downtime. When tou are sleeping in 12:00 AM i'm using scratch and what ?? Server Downtime. THERE'S NEVER A GOOD TIME FOR SERVER DOWNTIME !!!. think about the people in, Indonesia, China, England. Server downtime can affect their activities (even though some still sleeping ,like in US) in Scratch. Unsaved Project ? Unposted Comment ???

(late but…)
I actually have a idea, ST should get a test site, program the updates on there, copy it to the main site.

I support only running maintenance when nobody uses Scratch, but during school hours, technology classes, and possibly other classes use Scratch. Scratch isn't only for people to use during free time.
I would suggest overnight, but I'm not sure if the ST wants to be awake and working at that time.
Therefore, no support for during school hours, but, if possible, support for a time when few people are using Scratch.

Good point. For example, British users, who are five hours ahead of Scratch time, may be ready to use this when it is only 3:00AM at MIT, which, if the ST was awake for, based on my previous post, would be a good time to update Scratch.
@Nether_before has a really good point. Users from all over the world use this, so any time that few people are on is just a coincidence, because people from all different time zones use this. It wouldn't be fair to update during school (at, lets say, 9:00AM) here (if we wanted to update during school hours) because, for example, in Indonesia, that would be 8:00PM… not school hours.

Probably the most costly solution, but just throwing this out there
What if a mirror server was put up, which just has the Scratch editor (and no online capabilities)? The idea being that you could work on Scratch projects while Scratch is down, and when Scratch comes back up, a button can be enabled in the mirror editor that allows you to export your Scratch project back on to the real website. (or just download/upload again)

Yup. 100% agree with you ! Indonesia is in the +07.00 UTC. When it's around midnight, here is around 12:00 PM. Some scratchers is still online. I say it's not fair !There are users from all around the world who use scratch at different times of the day
