I have the Windows 7 home edition, but I also have a chromebook that I use at school.
I probably won't be upgrading soon if it is a lot of money.

If you have installed Windows on a drive other than “C,” replace “C” with the proper drive letter (for instance access “D:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download” if your Windows is installed on “D”).

From there on, tap the Windows key, type Windows Update, and click it to open it. Hit the Windows key again to bring up the command prompt and type “cmd.” Instead of hitting Enter, however, right click and select “Run as Administrator.” Next up, type “wuauclt.exe /updatenow” and again refrain from hitting enter. This command will make Windows Update check for updates.

Head back to the Windows Update window, select “Check for updates” on the left, and you should notice a status message that says “Checking for updates…” When you notice this message, go back to the command prompt where you typed the command without hitting Enter, and hit Enter now.

At this point, Windows Update should say that it's downloading the latest Windows 10. As always, however, make sure to back up your data before proceeding with the Windows 10 install.

I wonder if it will be necessary to upgrade from W7 to W10 just because W7 will lose support so we can use those few programs we need Windows for. If so, I hope W10 has a better user interface that W8, which was impossible to navigate and seemed like it was trying to sell you stuff at every click.
I also wonder if W10 has better protection against viruses. The nice thing about Linux is that there are practically no viruses aimed at it.

If I had my own computer, it would probably be running Arch Linux as the only operating system by now, even if it came with Windows 10. I am getting a laptop, but it's a Mac for school and we have to buy it.

I would put Windows 10 on our main computer, but I'm going to wait a while, probably until January next year.
