Possible Solutions for the Problem of "ADD EVERYTHING" Studios

+1

I mostly support the idea that you should have a choice whether you get your project added to a studio because it gives the user control of not just what appears in the sidebar, but where the user's project actually is. Also, I don't know about this, but I don't think you would need the game that badly in the Awesome games studio.

I have no idea if I said this already, but I support! Add everything studios are a pain! (I should know, my projects have been added to them)

I have a suggestion that wouldn't directly discourage AE but would sorta beat them to it.
*evil grin*
The ST make a studio that automatically displays every single project on scratch, randomly (without actually adding the projects to itself on the project pages). That way every AE studio would be outraced, in a sense.
Might even be able to have filters in place to show under viewed projects (low views after month of uploading maybe?) so that it had some other purpose as well.

You have no idea how much Scratch cradles you from the frustration of syntax errors.

I think the best solution is Lightnin's idea to add a flood limit (as in you can only upload x number of projects in x number of days) plus #2 and #6. This would slow add everything studios and restore the purpose of studios, but not affect anyone else.
^ This is the best solution, in my opinion.

Possible Solutions for the Problem of "ADD EVERYTHING" Studios

To AE curators:
You guys aren't really making a studio to be honest, think it like this: You wouldn't want to share a bag of chips with a ton of flavors in them, would you? Yeah sure, people might like the idea at first BUT: most would grab a chip, eat it, and didn't want that flavor! Same goes with Studios, a studio needs a theme, in which has a flavor, people prefer the one flavor because that's what they are looking for! Not the nasty mayonnaise flavor! That's the job of studios, to distinguish project from one another, I wouldn't want to grab into a cheese flavored chips bag and accidentally eat a, oh say, super spicy? That goes for studios, studios distinguish between either genres, something like “Projects I like” are fine, you make your own unique flavor of Scratch potato chips Industries! BUT: Someone makes an add everything studio, NO ONE would be able to find what they are looking for! So why don't you throw us a bone, try to join our side and make the spam studios come to an end? (There are free cookies!)

To victims of AE studios:
So, your project got added to an AE studio, did it? Well, it's pretty simple to get it off. You can just ask nicely, it's a pretty simple idea but it might not always work. They might just say no and leave it there. So what do you do? To be honest, I am not sure, but there has to be some way to get it off…

To Scratch Team:
Maybe if you guys added a way to have project creators be able to remove studios from their projects, it would help! Though it might make the creator of the AE studio angry and add it again, the project creator can just ask nicely not to add it back to the studio, if the problem persists, there would be a checkbox that would keep it from being added to the AE studio!

To Studios Raiders:
So, you are problably thinking that your doing a good deed messing with studios, right? WRONG. If your one of those people that try to gain access to innocent studios for the sake of transforming them into AE studios, that's BAD. You can get in trouble for that, in REAL trouble. That goes for the other way around, just because it's an AE studio, doesn't mean you can transform it into an anti AE studio! I had a ime when I tried adding my anti AE project, but soon it got turned into an AE studio, and a curator just said “NO.”. Which really is bad, and especially confusing for newer scratchers! So please, enough with this, website isn't a place for “claiming” territory (AK studios), it's for fun!

For everyone else:
If you have no idea what's going on, the AE studios are basically spam, not really adding every single project. But if you see one, report it, and move on. And Scratch on!

Hold on… so people were actually doing THIS? That should have gotten to knowledge to the administrators immediately. That's the REAL problem, not just the other AE studios that happened to get attention.

Yes. They were. In fact, r2dav2 got banned after he vandalized several Add Everything studios, something he should not have done.

No, that I knew was going on, but… I mean as a curator of an actually good gallery turning it in the direction of an Add Everything or Opposition studio.

Really? What is it even for?
This is the biggest argument that has ever struck the Scratch community. Both sides have there points, but this argument has gotten too far.

First of all, Add everything studios cause lag. just look at those studios with over 45,000 projects and watch your computer explode. AE Owners, don't even pretend that you don't know why Scratch is lagging that badly. Adding by tags is removed, but that won't solve the problem.

Secondly, it de-values otherwise great projects. As a maker of actually good quality games, I hate it when it gets compared to Coloring contests, “Add Yourself”, and blank projects as equals. And if viewer really wanted to find other good projects or studios that has that certain type of project (say, platformer) grouped together. 45 pointless AE studios will hinder the viewer's search.

Finally, AE owners think that its a sport or competition. And its “all for fun”. I thought sports took effort. And the only competition now is how much lag everyone can create (this is debatable, but everything with even with a complexity of 1 takes lag). Not like anyone can even find the studios with the most projects in the wave of tens of thousands of AE's.

I say stop it. I have tried to ask politely to get my projects removed from AE's, only to get reported for "being disrespectful. I appreciate those AE owners who ask for permission. Then it isn't as bad. Many amazing Scratchers have been banned and others vow to not make another project. I will join the uprising. I will not share another project until this debate is solved, and all my projects are removed from AE's.

What you can do to help:
Love ALL anti-AE projects
Join http://scratch.mit.edu/studios/248008/ Read the description. It is both a protest and a test.
Pester the ST?
Do not participate in this “sport”

Fell free to disagree. This is my opinion. But it is also the truest opinion out there.

Just, please stop. We've already had enough Add Everything studio discussions, and this won't help at all. It'll just give the counter-anti-AE groups all the ammunition they need to hold grudges against the Opposition.

Cheddargirl even said that this was a so-called “attack” on them (rather biased), and she IS a community moderator. Let's all just shut up about this debate and that way it'll make the situation go away.

Part of me agrees with you, yet I still think that we shouldn't stop UNTIL something is done about this. How do we know that anything is going to change? So far, nothing has changed in regards to AE. We could have said that removing the “add by tag” feature was a step forward and it would have looked good on the Scratch Team that they are actually noticing this except cheddargirl said that removing the feature had nothing to do with AE, in which case no visible progress has really been made…

@LeScratcher: I don't understand what you're saying, you first say that you want peace, then go on to write an Anti-AE post…
