I use sed and awk in bash.My man! That's more like it.
;D
I use http://ecce.sourceforge.net/ecce.c - have been using one or other implementation of it since 1976. Although I confess the one I use nowadays is sometimes invoked recursively from inside Emacs :-/ (I don't have the patience for doing ascii art the old way any more)

You might want to remove that, because the ST doesn't really like people saying what real programmers should or should not use.

^I'm pretty sure the comic was removed before because it contains the line “****it, Emacs,” which could be considered inappropriate.

Yeah, no-one ever really did that.
Now, a hole punch and a paper tape, that's totally different.

butterfly is an interactive autoloaded compiled Lisp function in
`misc.el'.
(butterfly)
Use butterflies to flip the desired bit on the drive platter.
Open hands and let the delicate wings flap once. The disturbance
ripples outward, changing the flow of the eddy currents in the
upper atmosphere. These cause momentary pockets of higher-pressure
air to form, which act as lenses that deflect incoming cosmic rays,
focusing them to strike the drive platter and flip the desired bit.
You can type `M-x butterfly C-M-c' to run it. This is a permuted
variation of `C-x M-c M-butterfly' from url `http://xkcd.com/378/'.

Notepad

I would use Visual Studio 2015 Community as well now that there is a free version, but I have Windows XP still, I had another small netbook with Win 7 but it broke somewhere near the end of last year, and I can't get the free Windows 10.
