Sic est. Latin mihi valde placet. Etim tibi placetne?
Intellegere non possum te. Google Vertere terríbile.
I wrote “Yes. I really like Latin. Do you like it too?”. And I didn't use a translator!

Fun fact, Latin isn't a dead language. It's the official language of Holy See (for all intents and purposes, Vatican City).

Cool, a Latin thread!

I wonder if anyone can answer a question I've wondered about for a bit, whenever I come on these forums…

Is the plural of forum forums or fora? (Spellcheck accepts both… (although, ironically, spellcheck doesn't accept the word spellcheck! double parenthesis…))

A Google search proved inconclusive…

In English the plural is forums I think. In Latin it is fora and in German it is Foren.

Cool But I think the Latin fora refers to something totally different.

I know a bit. I took Latin last year, but over the summer, I've lost a bit of what I've learned.

But there is one phrase Ill never forget: Porta errat.

My teacher gave us the noun Porta, which means gate, and we had to come up with a verb to finish the sentence. I, being funny, suggested ‘errat’ which means he/she/it wanders… So yeah the gate wanders.

you can never walk through it, because it will keep wandering away.

Isn't Latin technically a dead language? Like Romance (Yes, Romance is a language..)?

I know the Pope speaks Latin, but I think the Church (Vatican) is the only organization (Is that what I should call it?) that can really SPEAK Latin…

romance is a language family, and yes, latin is dead
“By contrast to an extinct language which no longer has any speakers, a dead language may remain in use for scientific, legal, or ecclesiastical functions. Old Church Slavonic, Avestan, Coptic, Biblical Hebrew, New Testament Greek, Ge'ez, Ardhamagadhi, Pali, Sanskrit and Latin are among the many dead languages used as sacred languages.” - wikipedia
(for a language to count as living there must be native speakers)

Cool! I took a class called Foundations of Latin, so I could be taking Latin 1 this year… Our foreign language program isn't set up yet.
