Just the person the quote button is pressed on.I think there would be barely any spam if the following rules applied to this:Support for this. This way, you could only receive a new quoted message every 60 seconds - the only problem is that someone could quote every person on the thread per post to get multiple users at once, but quite honestly I don't think that would happen. Or, if it did, a third rule could also be added:
- There would only be a message sent if the “quote” button was pressed and the quote was not later removed.
- There would only be one message sent per user per post; if you pressed the quote button multiple times the user would still only receive one message.
I guess it could also be optional just to make people happy, but I think it should be on by default so those newer to the forums who unfollow their own threads could be notified through quotes if somebody had important information.
- You would not get a new message from the same thread until you visited that thread.
What happens if a user is double quoted, like this? Here's a quote:Do user1 and user2 get notified or just user2?Quote:Example

If when I click the quote button and delete that user's quote (I do this to get text like the stickies sometimes), it doesn't send a notification, then support.

make it optional on a post by post basis - a checkbox on each post.

No support. I WOULD like it to be added, but it would be impossible according to cheddargirl.
It would be nice, but given the way the forum structure works, there wouldn't be a way to add it in, I'm afraid.

You should get a notification when you are quoted in a topic that you didn't necessarily want to follow but now you know if someone replied to you. It would only send a notification when it quotes directly you, not if you are deep in the quote chain.I LOVE THIS IDEA!!! support.
Look at the top notification:
I am not good a HTML don't judge.
Thoughts? Ideas?

I'm not really sure if anyone pointed this out yet, but I don't feel like reading through the 6 pages of spam quotes, sooo…
The whole
you're just telling the computer to write “user0”. It's like the @ symbol. The website takes that symbol, assumes the username after the @ is a valid username and automatically links it to that users page. It's not like a variable or anything.
I know I'm not explaining it well, but I think you understand.
No support unless the system can workaround this.
The whole
blehsystem is only text-based. When you input
[quote=user0]

Though I'm assuming before posting (in the stage where all those links turn into clickable links) those quote= names could be detected and a message could be sent (however messages are sent) to the user who was quoted.
Maybe quotes inside quotes are ignored?

Support! This would help so much! Though we would have to have a toggle option for people who have stickied posts. So toggle one post, all notifications, one forum? All of those?

Either way, did I already support this? If not, support, but if what scrooge200 said about it being impossible is true, this whole thing is futile
maybe with 3.0?no necroposts on the suggestions as long as it isn't implemented? :D
