Updated Scratch 2 Offline Editor (Beta) is now available! [closed - beta period is over. Thanks for testing.]

Edit: Thanks to everyone who helped test the beta player! The beta period is now over, and the improvements have been integrated into the default Scratch player / editor. Scratch On!

———————

The Scratch Team is pleased to announce that a new beta version of the Scratch 2 Offline Editor is available. This version can now upload projects to the website and is now compatible with some versions of Linux and older versions of Mac OSX.

Because the application is now called ‘Scratch 2’, if you have previously installed the ‘Scratch 2.0 Offline Editor’ it is necessary to delete it before installing this version.

You can install it and find out more details here:
http://scratch.mit.edu/scratch2download/

Please leave us feedback and information about any issues here. Be sure to let us know what operating system version you're using. Screenshots are always helpful.

Thanks!
Shane

Do you mean the previous 2.x version or the previous, previous 1.4 version? (old Scratch?)

The previous 2.0 version!

We've now clarified that in our posts–thanks for asking!

And thank you for clarifying.
BTW. The website version is alreay mostly localized (it's partly in Dutch f.e.) is there a reason the off-line version is still English only?

If you click the globe symbol on the top left of the menu, you can change the language. Note that the Tips still need to be translated.

Question: Should we download the update then, or download the complete new editor?

The PNG-import bug I show in the projects mentioned below is still there in the offline editor as well.

When I try to install, it says “download error”. Is there a way I can fix that? I use Chrome 29.0.1547.62 m with Windows 7.

I'm the guy who procrastinates on every thing ever, so don't be surprised.

Can't we update by opening the offline editor and downloading the update automatically from there?

In the Spanish translation, the file menu and closing dialog are incomplete. I'm not sure about the others, because I only speak English and Spanish.

The 2.0 offline editor beta seems to work properly. The only things I still have a hard time getting used to:
  • the stage automatically having the pop sound
message1 already being in the list of broadcastable messages–and no way to delete it
(I guess what I'm trying to say is that 2.0 does have a lot of cool features; but the reason I honestly still prefer 1.4 is that, with the exception of the Scratch Cat, every project starts with a “clean slate”. I don't know if this is my OCD talking or what.)

In the future you will be able to update by opening the offline editor. BUT in this version we changed the application name, due to lots of people suggesting that the name “Scratch 2.0 Offline Editor” was too long.

So, please for this week's version, delete the previous 2.0 Offline Editor, and then install anew.

If you're having trouble installing, use the "Optional Download" instructions that are on that same scratch2download page.
