Possible Solutions for the Problem of "ADD EVERYTHING" Studios

NoteSwift wrote:

I really love the idea of hiding studios that a project is in, but maybe the studio could be hidden on the project, but in the studio page the project still shows up?

A: Of course, hiding studios that add you (whether it be personal favourite studios or add everything studios) so your viewers can see the studios that matter. But you can still get traffic from those studios that want your project for whatever reason.

B: Some studios may add their projects and they may not be proud of, supportive, or like the relevance of said studio. (for instance, chr:stians unite is alright, but not everyone follows that belief)

C: Some people have friends on scratch and don't want them to see a studio that has an icon for my little pony on the front or something. (Personal reasons, also there is nothing wrong no matter who you are if you like my little pony. )

I mean if they added this alone I would be satisfied, studio approval would be nice too though, especially for popular projects.
I think this is a good idea

I do still support, though i'm going to take myself off the list and remove my projects. As turkey3 said “it's only a website”! As i've not made many projects in the last few weeks/days, i'll use the time I would spend on the forums and the studio making projects!

I did a google advanced search finding pages under the domain scratch.mit.edu/studios, and I got about 213 million studios. Someone else found out that 50 thousand of them are add everything. That means that roughly 0.023% of all studios are add everything. I actually thought it would be 5%.

Interesting! And of all of these, how many have had new projects in the past 30 days? Not sure exactly how to answer that myself, but I suspect it is only a small percentage of the total 0.023% that are add everything.

Great, I'm seeing studios resorting to social engineering to make people add projects…

You're going to be surprised.

734 studios have been updated in the past month.
26 studios with “add everything” have been updated in the past month.
2 studios with “biggest gallery” have been updated in the past month.
0 studios with “biggest studio” have been updated in the past month.

That's 28 out of 734 active studios, which is 3.814%. I'm not sure if I did that right.

However, when asked specifically not to add a project to a studio, you would expect them to respect that.
Not that I don't agree, but the same logic could be applied when people don't want others to remix their project.

You missed a step. You needed to calculate how much of the whole 0.023% (aka, the 734 studios) is 3.814%. If I did the calculation right, the answer is about 0.00073%.

These calculations are incorrect. There can't be 213 MILLION studios; hardly even 1 million. IIRC, before Scratch went 2.0, there were roughly 250000 studios. So I guess the real count of studios is unknown, because there can be studios with “Add projects about X” or “Everything Y” which have no relation to “Add All Your Projects”. Now here are some statistics that will help:
  • 734 active studios sounds reasonable, though it might be less than the real count.
  • 26 of 50000 AE studios (0.052%) are active in the past 30 days.
  • That 0.052% holds more than 70% of all projects added to AE studios.
  • The studio with the most projects has 45000, which is about 1.125% (45000 of 4000000) of all projects on Scratch. If this trend continues, it will take over a half a century to add every project in existence, not including ones being made/deleted or curators being invited/removed.
  • The studio with the most curators has about 150 curators, which is less than the 190 supporters I received on my project. So if this ratio were scaled to all users on Scratch now, Scratch would be very divided (44.1% who support vs. 55.9% who don't), though this number doesn't apply to users who are banned, deleted, or inactive.

Really? I found it to be 418,000 studios with “add all projects” in and no anti inside… and all on Scratch.

The 0.023% is the total amount of add everything studios out of the total amount of studios.

If only 28 add everything studios are active out of the total amount of 50,000 add everything studios, then it would be 0.055% of the total amount of add everything studios. That's strange, because it seems like all of the add everything studios are always busy adding projects.

Stop worrying about the numbers- we can all see that they're there, so no matter how many of them there are or what percentage they make up or how many have been active, they still annoy people, whether they make up 50% or 0.000005% of studios, that doesn't really matter.

You mean they annoy some people. Not everyone is annoyed by them.

The numbers are useful here, since some believe AE studios are spammy and make up a significant number of the studio group - but the statistics just shows how much smaller the issue is since the issue is only for a very small number of studios. As far as I see it, the issue isn't so much an AE one, but simply suggestions for improvements to the studio system in general, something which is still in progress for the ST. Given that, I suggest waiting for the studio improvements to roll out first before jumping on the “AE studios are problematic” bandwagon.

You guys:

We need to find the percentage of AE studios that are active in the last month COMPARED TO the number of studios active in the last month. Not in the total number of ALL studios.

We should leave the issue altogether alone, because there isn't really a way for us regular users to “solve” or “give it less attention.” No. The problem was never considered as one until Scratch 2.0. That's gotta be around over 6 years of ignorance about these galleries, and if we didn't notice them at that time what good will noticing them now do. The only thing I would be doing is adding a flood limit, make “Add Everything” studios not be shown in the column that shows what studios it's been added to, and ensure that the “how many followers” is removed altogether, so that it won't encourage others to think that Scratch is all about fame.
