How Rude Is This?
If it is an established programming concept, New Scratchers who have coded before will understand it. While saying it could be confusing to New Scratchers isn't exactly rude, I feel that that shouldn't be used as a reason to no support.Agreed.I guess it is a little offensive, but that's only because “New Scratcher” is more of a rank than an experience level, so it can be discriminatory towards those with the rank who have had prior programming experience. Perhaps the phrase “Scratch novices,” or a similar phrase indicating skill level, would be more appropriate.Discriminatory?
I think New Scratchers would be confused about that statement.just kidding!
However, it is a general fact - New Scratchers tend to be much less advanced than Scratchers. Why? Well, because Scratchers have had more experience with the software! Besides, New Scratchers with programming experience tend to get the Scratcher rank fairly quickly, I'd say.
Also, if I were to suggest this blockApply a quaso-unicomplex [curvature v] displacement field to [sprite 7 v] :: control // lol I have no clue what this even says
Saying New Scratchers would be confused is not discriminatory at all because even if they had loads of programming experience they would have no clue what the block did, simply because they were new to the software! (and because that block is downright gobbelty gook xD)
I say that the phrase “confusing to New Scratchers” is fine, so long as it's not “New Scratchers are dumb” or anything.
BTW who supports the suggested block above? It would totally improve Scratch!!!! PLEASE???? xD

So WHY are people saying all these things like “discriminatory” or “offensive”? It is perfectly OK to say something is confusing for new people, and if someone joins with previous experience I'm sure they're mature enough not to feel bullied or offended by a few posts here and there that depend on the idea of new scratchers not having experience.

How Rude Is This?
It's not really offensive, in my opinion. When I joined Scratch, I had 2 years of experience, but some blocks still confused me, because I was using Scratch 1.4. When people say, “It could be confusing for New Scratchers” they mean people who have not used Scratch, or have little experience.
It's perfectly fine to be confused, or to say that someone may be confused if a feature was added, so I'm pretty sure it's not rude at all.

I don't really see it as rude. When most people say “New Scratcher” they are referring to someone who has just recently joined scratch and, because of scratch's target age, isn't very likely to have had much coding experience. Because of this, some more complex suggestions might confuse them- some of the blocks suggested confuse me and I'm not a new scratcher. Despite this I do think we should encourage more constructive responses that explain why it would be confusing and how the suggestion could be made less confusing.

I've read all these posts (Help me…) and I guess Im pointing this to more of “confusing to New Scratchers” (Did I say that in my original post?), I see all your points as well, I'll see what other debating goes on.Generally, new scratchers (the rank) will not have coded before. If it is an established programming concept, New Scratchers who have coded before will understand it. I feel like certain phrases containing New Scratcher are okay like some of you said, but sometimes saying “confusing” is not always a “good” term to use considering there are different age groups on Scratch, so differentiated educations (You're all smart). I would find it okay sometimes, it's more of offending others.
