Support! I would love to see collab projects, it would be awesome. We also need the ability to turn existing projects into collab projects.
Also, since some people don't want it because of the ability to PM, what's wrong with PM? Only the creators of the project (Which are probably friends) will see it. I don't think many people would abuse it anyway.

PMing is bad because it allows for unmoderated communication, increasing the chances of bullying. The ST doesn't have time to sort through every single project, comment, studio, and forum post to make sure everyone is being nice. Instead, it's our job, as part of the Scratch community, to report anything that's mean, insulting, or inappropriate so that the ST sees it. If we were to allow communication so that only a few people can see it, then it makes it impossible for the community to do their job as “moderators.” Instead, the burden is solely placed on the ST to moderate all of those PMs. Imagine how many PMs and collab projects would be out there- for just a small group of people like the ST, it would take forever to moderate everything. They would no longer have time to add Scratch updates, work on the HTML5 player, or improve Scratch at all. And it doesn't matter if few people would abuse it, what we want to ensure is that there's no one abusing it.

I like this idea! This could really be a great update and helpful for collabs. But if this can't be added, maybe new technology could help achieve this goal! Perhaps we could give scientists ideas to create new inventions.

Science isn't the problem. The design of the Scratch servers are.

You see, when Scratch was created, it was made in a way that happened to be “unfriendly” with live editing. Although there wouldn't be huge issues to overcome if the ST decided to add live-editing, it would force them to completely rewrite most of Scratch's save system. It would be like trying to turn a 2-floor house into a 5-floor hotel - There wouldn't be any problems with the technology, but it would be expensive and time-consuming.
