TAGS - What do we need them for? - Great solution for removing "Add Everything" studios
I made a project that explains “better” all this. Check it out!
—If you agree with all below, please, love the project above so more people will agree/disagree—
Yep. After looking at Wes64's project (Here) i had a “good” idea. Why not remove tags? For what do we use them? Well, let's see good things we had of them in 1.4:
-Categorize stuff
Bad uses in 1.4:
-Spam in projects
After seeing this bad use, the ST decided to make a 3 tag limit in every project, so people couldn't spam. But what they didn't think about, was that they lost the good use of them, categorize stuff. So yeah, i thought that there was already a way to categorize stuff in 1.4, galleries, now called studios, so what's the reason of continue using them? Is that ok?
Here goes the last reason which i think it's the definitely one which will make you agree with me:
-They are used to make spam studios, adding projects by tag. People write many random letters as tags and then they can add many projects in less time than searching the url/adding your own projects 1 by 1.
So let's see why are tags useless:
-There's a limit of 3 tags in projects
-Studios do the same as tags, categorize stuff
-People use them to make spam studios
But then, one person said me: The explore page is sorted by tags. Then i thought a fast solution:
-After clicking share in a project, a “window” would appear with some generalized categories; Game, animation, art, music, other… You must have to choose one or more.

I think three tags is ok though because that's usually enough to tag your project with. -There's a limit of 3 tags in projects
But without tags and a “search for projects with this tag” feature it's hard to find projects with a certain category and studios require a lot of work especially if you were trying to make them cover a wide range of projects such as all 3D projects. A “search for projects with this tag” feature could act as a studio of its own and even though it would have a lot of projects it wouldn't be like an “Add Everything” studio because it wouldn't technically be a studio so it couldn't disrupt related projects etc. -Studios do the same as tags, categorize stuff
I think that the Scratch Team should get rid of the “add by tag” feature as it could be abused (e.g. adding innaproppriate tags). This would also mean studios couldn't be spammed although I think that the studios existing is ok as long as they don't interfere with related projects etc. -People use them to make spam studios
I think they should keep the ability to create your own custom tags as it helps be more specific. To make custom tags more useful I think when you search something there should be an extra tab on the sidebar which would say “Projects tagged with this” and when you click you would see all the projects tagged with what you searched for. After clicking share in a project, a “window” would appear with some generalized categories; Game, animation, art, music, other… You must have to choose one or more.

I really like how tags can be made more specific.I think three tags is ok though because that's usually enough to tag your project with. -There's a limit of 3 tags in projectsBut without tags and a “search for projects with this tag” feature it's hard to find projects with a certain category and studios require a lot of work especially if you were trying to make them cover a wide range of projects such as all 3D projects. I see you like tagsWell, in the project i said that studios would be more specific than tags, so tags would be more generalized, and in the explore page, the projects would still be sorted by tags. Is that ok for you?
With a “search for projects with this tag” feature we could have really specific studios (which couldn't be done by an inbuilt system), specific tags (which would be automatic so we could easily find all (because of the automatic system finding all of them) projects with a certain theme) and the explore page so it would be extremely easy to find the latest projects with general themes.
If the bad things about tags are got rid of (add by tag mainly) and the “search by tag feature” is made to make custom tags not useless then I think tags will not be useless and we can all be happy.

Well, that's your opinion.

I agree tags are a bit pointless… I wouldn't miss them if they went.

Agree and disagree.
What if you wanted 1s1s? OS? evolution? How about simulation? fractal? List OS (
)? So many you couldn't have enough categories.

Studios would be more specific. Tags would be for more generalized themes. Is that ok?

Another reason to find tags pointless is when you click on them, they link to the project you were on, not a search results page for projects.

Sorta. Even with tags removed, I found that projects can still be added by key words in the Instructions/Notes and Credits.Another reason to find tags pointless is when you click on them, they link to the project you were on, not a search results page for projects.

If it's the “Add by Tag” feature we don't like, not tags in general, why don't we just remove the “add by tag” feature? If we do that then we won't waste an opportunity to use tags in a good way.Sorta. My “search by tag” feature I am suggesting would be good because it would gather all the projects in one place whereas with a studio it would be hard to find every project to add and you would find a lot less projects than if you searched with the “search by tag” feature.

Good idea. But i still think they need to be removed

Well, if you had a fractal project for example, you would not be able to take the time to add it to every fractal studio in scratch or even a small portion of fractal studios in scratch. Tags are really useful in explore and help you find almost all of a certain type of project whereas if tags were removed, finding a few of them that happen to be in a studio.

I miss the old “view by tag” feature. With the exception of Animations, Art, Music, Game and Story, tags are useless now.

Well, now you could group studios, if there are similar studios. And you don't need to add it too all the fractal studios, just the ones you trust. And look at the last slide of the project you saw for the coming soon way of sorting projects in the explore page.

I tag all of my good projects with blueh so if I ever wanted to make a studio with all my good projects I just type blueh.
