I can imagine a featured user row on the front page. Every week, a new user would be selected to be “Scratcher of the week” or something. When you go to their profile,

myself wrote:

Hey, you know how there's the app of the week thing on the iPhone app store? That's sorta where I'm going here. You'll see.
you'd see a large banner on the top of the page saying in large (probably orange) text “Scratcher of the Week Editor's Notes” or something, followed by some text on why the user was picked for the front page, what kinds of stuff they make, and possibly one or a few of their cool projects. This would be helpful because a Scratcher might make a wide variety of projects, and just saying “follow this dude” might not be enough.

myself again wrote:

Come to think of it, the same thing could be done with featured projects and studios, but let's stay on topic.
Scratchers who made innovative, clever, or just cool uses of scratch could be featured. And just like with featured projects, the featured users section would have a forum topic where people request certain scratchers to be featured!

No support. Scratch isn't about being famous and being featured. Scratch is about imagining, programming, and sharing.

No support. Scratchers can brag and tease, and spam the ST with FEATURE ME requests

Then can't we just remove featured projects and studios?

Same with featured projects.

Basically what you guys are saying is that the featured projects and studios bars should be removed. This would just be a way to encourage clever uses of Scratch, while, having a secondary purpose of giving unpopular Scratchers more popularity. These users' projects might encourage other cool uses of scratch.

No support for reasons above. Plus the user would recive A LOT of “X has followed you” messages for the week which would make it hard for them to find the messages that they need, and most of those followers would stop paying attention to them after a bit.

Isn't it basically the same with featured and curated projects. So many X loved and favorited your project things…

It seems if featured projects didn't exist, and I brought that up, you guys would be saying the exact same thing. But since the ST added it, it's the best thing ever.

No support. Featured projects are shown for the projects, not the users.

Try not to extrapolate what we mean into something we don't.

Scratch is about programming, which is why they feature projects. They show people accomplishing the goals of Scratch. It is not about social status or promoting users, which is why they don't feature users.

However, a studio is actually directly about programming and usually shows collaboration. A user by definition does not.

I guess featured users are like FPC's. But, it actually makes sense because FPC's are related to programming. So, they align with scratch. UNLIKE featured users.

I don't know what FPCs are…but I'm going to try to piece your thinking together.

Featured Users = FPC
FPC related to)= Programming
Programming = Scratch
Featured Users =/= Scratch
…despite that Featured Users = FPC
…and FPC related to)= Scratch

1. Sharing. That is why we have featured projects. To learn from each other. Studios. IT shows useful things (media library) or unique things (virtual architecture)
2. But it would be easier to do that with featured users
