I guess you could draw the backdrop as a sprite, so you could move the sprite around, and it would look like the backdrop was moving even thought its not a backdrop, but a sprite.

I support as per Scratchifier:
When scrolled to left, fills the right with the left of previous backdrop
Opposite with right

As mentioned, the backdrop can be replaced by a sprite, which
- can have its position set
- can be huge and spawn over multiple “stages”…
- …while keeping hi-res (.svg)
But a scrolling backdrop would be easier and more intuitive I think.

(sorry for necroposting)
I support this due to the following reasons:
1: The actual scrolling tequnique (ik I spelled that wrong) might be hard for new scratchers to get
2: Ina contest that is almost over, it may help to have that in order to speed up the creation.
3: It should decrease the about of MB due to less scripts

(sorry for necroposting, it does have a link in the wiki though)
total support, sprite scrolling is VERY annoying and limited, and they seem like they are thinking about adding it.
(suggestion, in the wiki say not to necropost on this thread if you don't want it necroposted)

Use a tile engine. It's better.

It's probably either a good idea to put some blocks in the motion blocks section for the stage or get rid of the section for the stage because right now, with no blocks, it seems obsolete, redundant, pointless, etc…
By the way, first comment on this page!

(Please do not complain about necroposting. Necroposting is only okay if the necropost adds anything good to the topic and there wasn't any final compromise.)
We should have the scroll blocks. The scrolling methods are too complicated and simply these scrolling blocks. This would make platformers easier too, since platformers require a lot of scripting for it to function.
I have no idea why this wasn't added, it could have saved us all.

There's an easy workaround, just make a sprite that fills everywhere and use the
// run without screen refreshand
define set scroll x to (x)
switch costume to (blank costume v) ::looks // make it blank
set x to (x)
switch costume to (original costume v) ::looks // original costume
// run without screen refreshblock.
define set scroll y to (y)
switch costume to (blank costume v) ::looks // make it blank
set y to (y)
switch costume to (original costume v) ::looks // original costume

I feel they may have been removed due to being kind of janky and inconvenient, and bringing about the question “why don't we have any other backdrop manipulation blocks?” The backdrop is intended to be static. I think it was a novel experiment, but not something worth bringing back.
