Support for being able to save as other formats (although this is already possible…).
If you don't want to use the green flag then just use another language.

i surport sonicblur because you dont whant to load up yr bowser just to play an epic game and other langegs are harrrd to learn i bearly know java and i make minecrfat mods its so hard but the sould be a force to say it was made by scracth jar would be best as the scracth admin could defultly put in mad with scratch exe is so hard though dont bother with that and pluse some games are beter downloaded than online so im going to help sonic blur with this
My browser / operating system: Windows 8.1, Chrome 43.0.2357.124, Flash 18.0 (release 0) and it is hard to get flash codeing aplacation as well so make A .SB2 TO .JAR

Think back to when people made Java/C++.
Did someone say “I don't know. if we did this no one would bother with harder languages like Assembly and Punchcards”?

This, the ‘no one would bother learning to coe withh c++’ doesn't make any sense. I think it's a good idea!

Open the javascript interpreter with ctrl+shift+j and enter this:

console.log(“That would make making games easy and waste the effort of programmers”);
console.log(“It would waste the lucrative jobs of all game programmers but those working in the scratch team”);
console.log(“Scratch is FAKE anyway, its not real programming”);
alert(“Scratch is, anyway, missing a lot of the functions needed to build a real game”);
for (var i = 0; i < 99; i++) {
console.log(i + “in short, i do not support this idea”);
}
window.open(“www.penguinprogrammer.co.uk”);
var q = confirm(“see how hard programming is to learn now?”);
if (q) {
alert(“so do not waste my effort learning it”);
}
else {
$('html').fadeout(10000)

Scratch isn't that. It's an introduction to programming, and some people like to show their skills by making a game in it. Sometimes, people make a game in it because 1) They already have an audience and 2) they're not proficient enough in other programming languages.

Also, as suggested by others, this is what Scratchers would probably think of learning other programming languages, after they don't need to learn other programming languages anymore:

Arrogant and ignorant Scratcher wrote:

Why should I bother making games in other programming languages when SCRATCH IS THE BEST!!! You can convert them to other programming languages, there is drag and drop which allows you to produce programs faster and easier than typing in a specific language, and you can run them on the go! Plus, SCRATCH IS ULTRA FAST FOR GAMES, AND IS THE FASTEST AND LEAST LAGGIEST PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE IN THE WORLD!!!!

Vs what a Scratcher would think if there wasn't such a function;

Scratcher wrote:

Hmm… Scratch seems a bit laggy… I'll check out a game someone wrote in Java (Minecraft)… Lemme remake this in Scratch… Oh wait I can't do that. Oh, there's 2D Minecraft on Scratch! It should be less laggy… Oh no! The performance is 10 times worst than the original Minecraft! Maybe I should learn a bit of Java one day…

What was that for loop for (other than to waste time)?
Plus, Scratch isn't fake, it's a graphical programming language you can use to build stuff in without much mental overhead.
And jquery doesn't work unless you link to it.

Please use [code] blocks this time.

The .sb2 file format is too obscure to be practical when sharing with others, and the recipient of the file would need to download Scratch to run the file. Support.

I'm not talking about some dumb converter, I mean an ability to save as any of the common file types.

This will make Scratch the perfect game making tool. For now, you can only share on the language's website, which is boring when you want to make a fangame or an indie game.

For my particular request, the project is Sonic Blur. I want to be able to save it as .jar right from the editor, rather than replacing all clones, custom blocks, and vector graphics, just to convert it to .sb, then to convert it to any of the above file types, which is a really hard thing.

Also, don't put in the flag. If you're making an indie/fangame, it's really embarrassing to see a flag and a stop sign at the top. This will really help, and make Scratch a better language/tool.
you can save it as an .exe on windows but trying to run it will get windows very mad at you

C came first…
Plus, there's huge differences between C and Scratch:
C is text-based language.
C, in order to run, has to go through a compiler. Compilers will try to optimize the program for you. On the other hand, Scratch is interpreted, which makes it a whole lot slower…

There are still low-power PCs that can't handle 2 Scratch programs running at once. However, those PCs can probably handle 2 C programs.

What is C for? Nearly all programs.
What is Scratch for? An ultra-powerful progr- Oh wait… It's an educational tool..

Sorry. MC Mods in Scratch would be slow development. Plus, it would be equally confusing - you have to use certain variables for the mod to work. How would you know that the Scratch program would export correctly so that the Java mod would work?

I also recommend you to learn the basics before you charge into advanced material. Learn JavaScript instead. (offensive section removed by author)

Also, mind your language.

Of you say that that's “too difficult” to learn as well, you're just being lazy here now - you don't want to learn new things and stick to Scratch? Fine. But don't blame us when you can't become a programmer in the future.

Also, mind your language.
Please don't go making accusations of “being lazy” if somebody is looking for an easier way to do something. Not everybody is interested in being a computer programmer - some folks just want to accomplish a certain task and are looking for a tool that will do that task. So please keep it polite and focused on the suggestion rather than the motivations.

I apologize. I just got out of bed

On the other hand, this person is quite ambitious. Making a good Minecraft mod requires a lot of discipline, which can be achieved through learning a more “difficult” programming language (e.g C, Java etc.). I probably reacted more than I should've, thanks to the 3 words “it's too hard”. The spelling/profanity might've irritated me as well.

SB2 to EXE (Finished) - https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/150386/

SB2 to APP (Unfinished, i'm still looking for testers. Be the first!) - https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/172580/

SB2 to JAR (I'm working on it ! But be patient. Right now you can use this.) - https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/173084/?page=1#post-1664952

Try those for right now, and if they don't work, try either spending hours searching the web, or coming up with your own ways, such as SB2 to SWF to EXE to WINE to APP to DMG to JAR. (Maybe i'll try that one .)

See? People are making third-party converters.

not necessarily true.
scratch doesn't have lambda expressions, regular expressions, functions that return values, file i/o, tons of things.
that said, I don't support this suggestion. if you find the green flag so embarrassing, just use another programming language.
Everybodys treating the OP like he can just click a button and learn C++.

Scratch takes MUCH shorter time to learn and could help kids that are too impatient to learn programming languages make a game they wont to make!
