So, if I understand what you are saying, it's not so much changing your username as giving yourself a second name (a nickname?). Interesting idea! Where would the name appear - and where would the nickname appear? Would the project have “by <username>” or “by <nickname>” Would the profile use the username or the nickname in the URL “scratch.mit.edu/users/<???>” I'm kind of thinking that it could still be pretty confusing.

Actually, a number of people kind of do this now. I'm often known as “P2C” or “Paddle” - but it's just done informally and not integrated into the site in any way
I hope this actually doesn't get implemented.

(if it does I can always make my own programming themed site)

What if your username was displayed on your profile and when you mouse over your nickname? Even if someone tried to impersonate another person, you could easily mouse over their username to see who they are. The only problem I see is maybe it could cause some confusion on first glance.

No support, just keep the name you're stuck with, you'll live.

It isn't worth reworking the architecture for.
And if you want a new username, move accounts…

Interesting idea… although I still think it could cause confusion… and impersonation troubles. Like, Twitter needs a checkmark next to all of the famous people because these people all get impersonated so much.

No support. It would make scratch look like a clone of twitter and it will cause confusion.

Same goes for you; don't mini-mod without an input later.

Anyways, the idea seems interesting and Pad2See seems to believe it's compatible with the site.

No support. It isn't all that useful (your account has plenty of space to summarize what you do) and usernames are meant to be unique and static.

Aside from that, to implement it would require a rework of a major part of the software architecture for a rather minor change. Maybe support for Scratch 3.0, when the site it likely to be entirely re-done anyways, but as that is in the far distant future, I don't really find it relevant right now.

No support as per this.

No Support. This is like two usernames. Confusing! Also, is username changing the ST's biggest priority? Of course not! It won't help coding one bit, and only bring on more of the social side. You chose your username, live with the consiquince.

Woe is me. I hope a simple feature doesn't get added or not that changes nothing about the website or else I'll go full salt and create my own website which will never gain publicity.

. It would still cause confusion, and you would need to remember a lot of nicknames.
