When I load an MP3 into the project, it loads really quickly, then there's only a static bar to show the sound wave, then the sound doesn't play.

Yep, I'm having this problem too. wav's don't seem to work too bad though

Well, I just tryed to down load a wav but it didn't work.

I don't really have that problem.

Sometimes I try to take the soundfile that I want, then import it into audacity (or FL Studio for me) then export it as a .mp3 or .wav if the filetype was different originally. Usually .wavs don't work for me but .mp3s do. Converted ones always work.

I can't create the AMV I was planning to make.
