Fotor.com and cooltext.com xD

Editing the weird white stuff out of the logos took so long, and it isn't technically finished yet :O
I used scratch 2.0 to do it.

I'd say we start. Remember: Respriting, tile programming, and story work!

Don't forget Pokemon Sun and Moon which I started making, the crazy thing is I made the discussion thread exactly 2 years before the announcement of Sun and Moon (Feb 26th)

I hardly made any progress apart from a half finished battle engine though

(I'm not a collaboration leader, but I've been in a few – successful! – collaborations before.)

FYI you're going to be more likely to have a successful collaboration if you've already got it started before you start inviting 99999 people.

It looks like there's a fair few people following and posting here on this topic. Assuming any of you carried over from the previous L&S threads, or have been in other Pokémon collaborations before, you should probably just start.

I'd like to not see this collab die. And it will, if it doesn't go well, and for it to go well it needs to be organized, like every other collaboration.

I'm just a decent programmer, and as that's all I know and can help with, here's some tips for the project's code..

1) You seriously need to make a basic engine. In this case, engine means the basic project that you can expand on to really make a Pokémon game.

2) The engine needs to be expandable. In this case, expandable means “easy to add more stuff”. You're making an entire Pokémon game. That means you'll be doing lots of stuff. If you need to recreate the battle system for every new enemy you make, well, that's not going to be very efficient nor fun! (Same goes for levels, shops, and so on.)

3) Absolutely make sure you know about clones, and how to use it as sort of a class system. If you have a bunch of NPCs, do not make each of those NCPs into separate sprites. Instead, implement it as a clone of an “NPC” sprite (or better, a “scrollable” sprite.. NPCs will move on your screen at the same rate as the level tiles so it would make sense for them both to have the same positioning code). The reason for this is all your NPCs will be sharing a lot of code. It'll be a gigantic pain to recode every NPC, or enemy, or player, or whatever, whenever you make a change to one. Just use clones to keep the sprites sharing code.

Also you don't necessarily need to use clones if there'll only be one on the screen at any given time. But I like to use clones anyways because it keeps all my code organized and similar, and if I ever decide I want to have at least two of that sprite on the screen at once, it really makes things easier to already be using clones.

Also there's a 300 clone limit. I've never gotten too close to it though.

4) Will maps be prerendered images or tiles? If you use tiles, you can have animated tiles, e.g. water. If you use a prerendered image, you'll probably bring down the clone count down 80 or so. Might be handy if you're running out of clones.

-

Having sprites/music will help development of the game a bit but isn't really necessary for the engine, so get started on the engine right away!

-

Hopefully some of this helps.

Alright people! This sounds like a plan!

Programmers- We need to get the engine working and clean up the rest.
Tasks:
Overworld! Decide how the maps will be constructed (I recommend tiles, since it sounds both better for larger maps and seems visually appealing) and work on making the necessary code for the map (Normal tile, Surfing tile, small cliff tile, warp tile). Remember that Pokemon games have route gates to help the game load tile sets, so that might make the game a little faster.

————————————–
Spriters- In order to assist the Programmers, we need to work on overworld tiles! (Question for the programmers: What size should the tiles be?)
I'm going to work on editing our older Pokemon so they look cleaner. I'll also try respriting official Pokemon so we don't steal the originals.
————————————–
Audio- We need basic sound effects, such as the clicking noise, going back noise, and completely closing a menu noise. Other sound effects include:
-Selecting a move in battle
-Moving the cursor in the battle UI
-Door opening
-Healing Pokemon in the overworld
————————————-
I'll edit the first post and say the things we need to do. I'll also put an application form, but it'll be a little more strict than before.

trioteam

*Update regarding game direction*
Due to serious holes in previous plots, I've made a decision. Pokemon Serenity and Strife will be based on both Africa AND South America.
The reasons for this decision:
-South America has important lore it that could help fill in plot holes
-Character designs can become more diverse
-South America was once attached to Africa. One proposed legendary can revert the planet's natural progression at will, so this could create a big gameplay possibility.
—————————–
Some completed work can be found here (When the project is uploaded:____________
