Yeah. Or maybe just do pen direction and draw.. and keep the direction between 0 and 180. With some other random effects to make it more interesting (sudden drops/cliffs, etc). I still have to look at that other project you told me about.
for doing random terrain generation... couldn't you just have an x variable increment by 10 or so, and every increment randomize either the y or the direction of your pen and draw so many steps (latter probably being better choice as former would give you audio waveform type terrain.... steep and craggy)
Yeah I had the shots going back a bunch of layers so it wouldn't appear in front of the tank, but it also put it behind the clouds.
And awesome, I will look at that.
as for shots going behind the clouds, it depends on the order of your sprites in the bottom right. i believe you can also right click on a sprite (like you're bullet) and click "SHOW" which brings it to the top layer. :)
I'm also thinking something like a lifebar, so it takes multiple hits. Which will be more interesting when the ground is variable and can be destroyed, so you can hide yourself after you've been hit.
oh and a score would be cool... that way you could say "let's play best 2 out of 3" so basically a WIN counter for each player. when you hit N for new game, it would reset the counters.
Yeah. I'm not sure, I'm kind of on the fence about having the readouts.. but maybe at least having power be a slider/bar instead of a number would be nice.
now.. the variable read outs are nice, but if you HID them, it might be a bit more... unknown. For instance, you definitely don't need to know the angle when you should be able to tell by the angle of the turret itself. as for the power, change it to something like a slider maybe? i'm all for variable readouts on strategy games, but sometimes hiding the actual values and relaying them via graphical effects can make the game more fun. maybe make the barrels RETRACT with the more power you give them, then they thrust out as they shoot.
these are things that are SMALL but by combining all these things you'll have a very polished game. :)
CONTROLS: A - move left D - move right up/down - change angle of turret left/right - change power of shot p - pause n - new game (at end)
Now with wind, and some fixes. Wind makes it that much closer to being not so boring. :) You can only move so much per turn. Shots go behind clouds for some reason, I'll fix that.
todo: -Blast radius -Only move while on ground -variable ground -destructible ground -variable weapons -variable starting points -AI? -birds? :P -weather? tornadoes, lightning -ability to shoot up out of the screen and land back down. -ability to kill yourself

check out my favorites for a project similar to yours. it has random land generation!
