The way i usually hide or show sprites is by using a broadcast message. use the if...clicked block and broadcast a message. THe sprite should use the when i recieve block to listen for the message. see this project i created for you that demonstrates background changes and button presses to show a sprite. (link to project) Hope it helps.
Very nice. I was wondering whether you used a scrollX and scrollY technique, or you made multiple costumes for the background that change when a certain key is pressed.
I used Jens "big" project as the basis (link to project). I modified it to fit my starfield. I use a variation of scrollX and scrollY. If you down load, you can see i use sin and cos to calculate the x any y movement based on the angle of the ship.
Yeah, I agree and Blob8103 mentioned that it appears to rotate on its nose. I fixed that in the full game, but decided not to make any more adjustments to the demo.
Wow, your subconcious has been active lately hasn't it?
I am on level 4 of the game, but there are a lot of bugs to fix on all levels. I have one boss so far. it is starting to feel like work, so my progress is slowing down.
Then The Final Boss Showed Up, It Was A Bigger Mechbird That Shot Energy Orbs At 8 Angles At Once With A High Generation Rate And It Took 15 Hits To Kill It. I Had Another Dream After Veiwing This!
The Lobstercraft That Are Here Were Still There At First, But After 3 Levels The Boss Showed Up, The Boss Was A Red Lobstercraft That Shot Missiles At You, But You Could Take Them Out By Firing Yours, It Took 5 Hits To Destroy The First Boss, Then It Exploded And You Got 10000 Points A Few Seconds Later Level 4 Started And Instead Lobstercrafts, It Was Metal Monkeys, That Took 2 Hits To Destroy Instead Of 1!
(When I Woke Up I Called Them Monkeroids.)
That is weird, because i have a boss on level 4, but no lobsters in this game. You are forced to fight close quarters with the boss (i won't tell you how, you have to wait for the game). The boss lets out magnetic mines that will start to track you if you get to close to them.
i have a suggestion for one minor improvement. i think that the bullets shoulnt change costume until the are fired. atm existing shots change costume in midflight. otherwise this is great and i look forward to seeing it develope.
I'm loving the parallax scrolling, but for ray-traced models, the ships don't look too realistic. Also, it's hard to accurately hit an enemy with the 360-degree motion. Other than that, this is great, and I can't wait to see what this develops into.
I can't figure out what i'm doing wrong in POV-ray. The sample pictures that come with it look photo-realistic, but mine look like they are made of plastic or something.
I feel the weapons need special features. The red shots should be rapid fire but fdo low damage. The green shot should stay the same and do high damage. The blue wave should stay grow as it moves on and do normal damage (I know it already grows but it should grow rapidly and the other weapons shouldn't grow.), and the missle should do normal damage and track home in on enemies. You also need collectable ammo
Thanks for the input, i plan on having the default weapon be unlimited, but more powerful weapons can be collected during battle and are limited. The missile tracking logic is already built. Keep the ideas coming
it's just a demo. The game with sound, explosions levels score and more enemies is in the works. I'm just posting pieces of it so I can work on the optimization.
THanks, I know it needs some work. I am still trying to get the ship movement smoothed out. I'm not sure if I will use the Lobstercraft in the game. I agree it looks kinda funny. I have other enemies made, and saved the good ones for the game. I mainly just wanted to see if it moves fast enough online.
This is the third phase of my game. I Added two enemies, but had to remove some of the more advanced AI due to lag. This is not yet a full game, so there is no sound, explosions, score, etc... This is one of my enemies I call lobstercraft. I may or may not include it in the full game. The game will have multiple different enemies and maybe a boss or three. If you can't wait for Guardian 2 to come out, try playing the original Guardian. Don't forget to click love it.

When you click the "The Story" button, the yellow text shows up. And when you click the green flag while the text is still there it doesn't go away.

The ships are done with POV-ray. It's a free ray tracing program. The buttons were created with scratch editor. the weapons were hand drawn.
