A simple shooting game with retro arcade style graphics.
Use the Scratchboard (reccommended) or the keyboard to steer.
The challenge for me with this project is every single piece of the project is made from text! The space ship is an ^ and so on. I used a very useful free logo design website called cooltext which I highly recommend for quick, good quality game graphics!

Very good, the neon and every thing as words gave it a very good effect that made it very good. The laser though, I felt was too slow and it was very hard to hit the enimies so I made it to change Y by 13 instead of 3 which I found more fun. More enemy typs would be good though, the losing an O was a good feature

cooltext took alot of designs from GIMP witch works better
I use gimp - but cooltext increased the challange of the graphics for this game.

what if you dont have a scratch board?
use the arrow keys. ( think there's a strange glitch in this where the arrow keys automatically get used online and the scratchboard is automatically selected offline even though I don't want that to happen. You'd have to edit one of the scrips so that the varaible is set to keys, not board.

yes, think more members would be a great idea. switenky seems to have a good idea about simple 3D scripting so he has my vote there, and I reckon we ought to cast around for someone who does amazing drawings to be head of graphics... someone to do music would be good too, but that's hard to find on Scratch.
(view all replies)strange, effect generator didn't charge me to make the banner... I'm not sure what to do for a first project... I think a game project would be good to start with as my survey shows that most people like game projects. I think as a collaberated project we ougt to draft it first to get an idea what we're doing, and one person needs to start the project so we can send it back and forth.

I know, I'll link the website in the project notes, the whole game is made of text, the player is a ^ the baddies are °'s and the floor is ___ 's. the website lets you generate amazing text :) I use it all the time :)
