For my project, I wanted to get a sense of how Scratch stacked up against traditional programming languages by implemening a very simple arcade game. In "Blob v. Yarn Man," you have to control a very simple character (Blob) while the evil Yarn Man throws pies at you. Too many pies hit you and you lose. But if you catch enough in your mouth, you'll have enough power to charge the Yarn Man. If you tag him with 4 X's, you win! But be careful - he may throw a pie when you least expect it.
I find that the performance of this game varies greatly between my home computer and the web server version. One significant difference is that you cannot hold down an arrow key to move Blob in the online version. This makes it a much more challenging game.
Overall, though, I was pretty impressed with Scratch. I was able to animate my hand-drawn Blob store a dozen variables tied to different events in the game. Now if only they had error logs!
