I think that you should only have to shoot down 50 of Twin Ion Engine Fighters.
If you are running out of "ammo" too soon. Try taking your time on the first few waves of the enemy craft. The recharge spheres are time based. That way you will have more energy available for the later waves. Hence, Yoda's comment about patience... :o)

Wow....so close!!! You need to blast away 100 of those. Pssst. Take your time on the first few waves. That will give you more fire power for the last 50. :o)

Now you have to hit 100 tie fighters...And I changed their speed and movement. Let one get behind you, do not.
