I'm currently working on a track reader that reads a 2d map of the track via color sensing, then turns it into a 3d view of the track. I kinda stopped working on it a while ago, but now that I know trig, I'll probably start working on it again.
dear mudkip, i would love to help you out in this, all i need is the mario sprite, i will also need the following sprites as enemies... dk, diddy kong, peach, daisy, wario, waluigi, luigi, toad, yoshi, bowser, and bowser jr.
sorry I didn't get back to you earlier, I was on vacation. When you ask for sideways, up and down, what exactly do you mean? Do you mean s u and d on a 2D grid (like so that sideways would be from the side, up would be a picture of their back, and down would be a picture of their front)? IF so I can probably do that (or maybe find them on the internet lol). And also, why are peach, daisy, luigi, toad and yoshi considered enemies?
lol I actually didn't use any image editing software, I just drew things 3d-ish with scratch's drawer. And the mario sprites are actually directly from MK64. Speaking of which though, do you know any good free 3d image editing software that I could use to make this into an actual game maybe?
Blender!!! It's awesome!!! (It takes a while to learn, though. But once you get the basics, you can make anything you want) Or, if you're just planning on something simple, use gimp. It's a free 2d image editor in which you can change the view perspective of the image.
That's a good idea! I was thinking of adding some bananas, but then i was too lazy to make all of the costumes for the kart spinning around, so I sort of just gave up.
Yeah, I couldn't figure out how to make a turn except by making a costume for the road at every possible viewing angle which would be ridiculously tedious, so until i find a better way you can only go straight
this is kind of boring (no offense i am sure it took a long time to make). i only say that because I have been doing it for about a minute and there was not even a turn, though I am sure this was hard to make so I shouldn't be talking. Please take that as "constructive criticism".
Yeah, it didn't take long to make (maybe half an hour with image editing, the scripting took no more than 5-10 minutes. I'm not at all offended). The turning is the reason I'm having trouble turning (no pun intended) this into a game. To make new costumes for the road at every possible viewing angle as you make the turn makes it kinda hard to do. Which is why i'm wondering if there's a better way to do it.
Download "mario kart"(5 sprites and 13 scripts) and open it in Scratch
Project Notes
The basis of a mario kart game i may or may not make sometime in the future. Use the up and down arrows to accelerate or brake (or go in reverse), and use the left and right arrows to move left and right. You can drive off the edge of the road, and that's about the only cool feature in this project. OBviously, there are lots of complications in turning this into a real game: if anyone feels that they could help out, leave a comment. Enjoy! The image of Mario is from the N64 version of Mario Kart

Whoa! Nice job with pre-rendered 3d! (Using image editing software!) This could have a future. Just make some objects to crash into.
