Great fireworks, Kevin! I also love your corresponding gallery. Did you know we're having fireworks for the turning of the year in Germany, so this is just the right season for fireworks in Europe. About the graphic effects: They're having a specially crafted VM 'Scratch-plugin' for graphic effects which is used in the Squeak version (for resons of speed and accuracy, I guess), but obviously not in java. I assume that's why some effects are horribly slow online. BTW that's a major reason why they didn't come up with a linux version yet....
It's funny but I can's watch this without a twinge of fear. We had a fireworks show this summer where the wind was blowing the burning embers right into the crowd so you'd watch the display, then watch some more looking for the hot burning sparks to fall on you! More excitement than we signed up for.
Sound is fine in squeak, but rather awful in java.
The java implementation is also rather slow, perhaps because the graphics effects are poorly implemented?
Download this project!
Download the 5 sprites and 21 scripts of "fireworks" and open it in Scratch

Cool fireworks! It is nice to be able to have 5 fireworks at a time, and I like how they change colors!

Nice fireworks! I've had trouble with some of the effects in java. Particularly the fisheye effect, seems really slow.
