It can be very useful to be able to count on your fingers, particularly if you have to count numbers, which can really mess up verbal counting schemes.
This script contains instructions and animation for learning to count in binary on your fingers.
The thumb is used as the least-significant digit, since it has to move the fastest when counting. A left hand is displayed, to put the least-significant bit on the right where it is most expected.
Of course, when counting on real hands you should use your dominant hand for counting the low-order 5 bits.
space for instructions
up and down arrows to count up and down
r to reset to display screen
c to count up automatically

The mod operator seems to be fixed in v12 of the Java implementation, so negative numbers now work correctly. Hooray!

Negative numbers work correctly in the squeak version of scratch, but not currently in the JAVA version.
