This interaction is meant to be used with a sensor board, so it will not work on the website. I am uploading it to share the code with anyone interested.
Description: The input device for this interaction is an old rotary phone dial, repurposed from an old telephone I had lying around. I built the rotary dial into a wooden box, on top of which sit a monitor with running the animation. Participants input their birthdate by dialing in the numbers on the rotary dial.
Then, the psychic lady tells them what astrological sign they are, gives them a small reading, and asks them to choose a number.
Not satisfied, she decides she needs to read their palm. I built two hand cutouts made of brass that sit next to the box. Once prompted, the participants put their hands on them, completing a circuit (the cutouts are wired to the sensor board) and an image of a fortune cookie slowly starts appearing.
After 5 seconds, a fortune is read to them.
In a future version of this, I would like to implement a way to distribute an actual, real fortune cookie at the end, but I still haven't figured out how to do this.
Telephortunes debuted at Maker Faire 2009, and had great success with both kids and adults!
