The sprites to not go well together... I would use squares and flat surfaces if I were to make a scroller (which I am but i will proberbly never be released). I beat the Pokemon league with lv. 55 Empoleon, Machamp and Staraptor so you cant be that unlikely to do it. (My friend even used his Dialga to do it and I still beat him through) the types of the trainers go in this order: Bug, Ground, Fire (but there are only 2 fire species in sinnoh so he has steel and normal as well) and Psychic. The champion uses no specific types but starts the battle with Spiritomb, a Pokemon with no weakness. send out your most powerful pokemon on the champion first to hopefully take it out in one hit, then just send out what is needed afterwards.
