If you want to use a sensor you can but I was planning on having the final strech be hard with no check points. I also just realized something, You are going to have to have the ai be programed for this coarse to avoid lava. You might just want to set up a preset route it will take to prevent instead of even using ai
I made this for Dingdong's dirtbike game. It is an enormous level that has 40 platforms. Yellow spots are checkpoints. If you touch the lava you will be returned to the nerest checkpoint. I will also use this for the final level of my Legend of Zelda Scroller game. SO far I have only made the first 15 platforms.

The gorons are normally allies so I don't think that would be a good idea unless they are possed by gannons dark magic or something like that.

Obstacle, if you touch it you go back to the nearest checkpoint, (the yellow spots I put in are checkpoints)
