I just type anything as long as it starts with < and ends with > and then the cat says, "Well, ain't I parsing as fast as I can?" and then he says, "That's some mighty valid XML you've got there!" and goes to a new screen with your type in one of the lists. ???????????
The great thing about HTML is that if you know it, you basically know how to write XML, since they are both based off of the same standard. In fact, most XML parsers would probably understand HTML since they share a system of tags and attributes.
I don't have must MXML experience; Flex builder and my computer don't get along so well :D. More parsing information from plain ol' XML for things like photo galleries, etc. At one point I tried passing XML from files opened with AS3 to Scratch through remote sensors, that's where this project came from.
Deep in the Amazon jungle, there exists a tribe with the custom that when a young man or woman comes of age, they must spend ten days alone in the rainforest building an XML parser with Scratch. In an attempt to replicate this act of enormous courage, I've devised a way to parse XML nodes (which will eventually turn into parsing whole XML documents) into lists. For those of you unfamiliar with the delights of XML, it'sa data interchange format similar to HTML that's very popular for sending things like RSS feeds across the web. Anyway, all this project does is determines that your XML is valid (begins with < ends with >, no open quotes, valid identifiers) and parses its name, and all of its attribute names and values, into a list. Try something like this:
and see what happens. Have fun, or as much fun that it's possible to have with XML ;)

Thanks for the play-by-play! :P Actually, what it does is parse XML nodes, which is a standard for storing data on the web.
That is awesomesauce...even though I know xml :P
<o hai i herd u lieh="mudkipz"> works!
In the "scratcher name" one, I typed "scratch_yoshi" and it was valid!
I'm much more experienced at HTML than XML. I just havent had need for it lately. Spending too much time trying to understand assembly

(view all replies)Awsome! Nice to see you made another project. you havent in a while
Funny project notes. :) I <3 XML
this is awesome! where have you used xml before?

Glad you like it! I use XML mostly with Actionscript.
(view all replies)my sister told me to do that. sorry. i thought it was cool.
?
this sucks.
That's very neat. Good job.
Very nice! But as DarthPickly said, quite simple to make! :)
BTW, I told my dad about this and he challenged me to make one :) So I did. But I did not get the scripts off you, I swear!
Awesome!!
nice! pretty simple though, if you've ever tried making a programming language interpreter with scratch.
Like my EPack Developer?
Cool!
