This is a simple example where the car just follows a chain of waypoints that move back and forth. If you use more waypoints (at corners), it will look more realistic.
I edited this some for chalkmarrow... I added a racecar you control.

PS: I added a few extra little things too chalkmarrow.
Warning: Hard! You can only go as fast as the AI car (even if you change its speed)... I think

yeah, I was just doing something quick. You can definitely improve it if needed
Ignore last comment re speed. I think what it needs is the normal car driving controls using arrows.
Nice start. The speed of the player (ball) needs to be increased a bit. I'll take a look at it.
