I can't quite remember, but I believe I did add an "if..else" block to prevent the Scratch Cat from walking too far in either direction. For this project, I added a bunch of comments on the scripts to explain everything I did, so you can download this project and see all my explanations on how everything works. ^^
XD, yes, I love cheese! And yes, cheddar is one of my favorite cheese. But, to be honest, my name has nothing to do for my love of cheese... 'cheddar' was actually a nickname of mine a while back. I actually wanted the username 'cheddar' on the Scratch website, but it was already taken, so I had to go with 'cheddargirl' instead.
Nice city! It looks so nice! For some reason, the project feels like it has velocity... it makes me sleepy. I also like your warning in the project notes. *By the way, you put your reasoning for the 'Delete the Text-Based Games!' so well! You always do (such as your post asking to be a curator). :)*
Thanks, Jonathanpb, glad you like the city project (and my warning to art thieves). Ah, well, I believe that speaking clearly and calmly is important; and expressing and listening to each others' viewpoints with respect is more beneficial to a community instead of throwing flaming spam in each others faces all day ^^.
This game is ok but a. maby a little more things and b. the cat goes too slow like he's went to the fish and chips store and eat two half pound burgers lol
Yeah, it's not really a game yet, I just wanted to see how scrolling is accomplished in Scratch and how it looks and feels like in the Java player (that's why it's an experiment for now). But thank you very much for the helpful feedback :)
Of course you can use the code! Remember, part of the Scratch motto is to share, that's why we have remixes so we can learn and improve form each other; I would love to see what you can do with the code :)
As to your question as to why many people don't know me too well - archmage was here longer than I was (I joined just last year, so I'm kind of still fairly new).
AAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I started the game at my grandma's house and shared it so I could finish it at home, but I can't download it!!! D8<
Very cool use of the new features! And I love the ending of your notes lol. "BUT CLAIM THE IMAGES AS YOURS AND THE SCRATCH CAT SHALL SMITE THEE WHERE YOU STAND!" My class did middle english last year. Let me tell you- that was fun.
Thank you, darkstare, glad you enjoyed the artwork! (XD, I wanted a slightly humorous way of saying "don't steal the artwork". I think the statement is incorrect though, I believe it's supposed to end with ".. and the Scratch Cat shall smite thee where THOU DOST stand".)
Hmm... this project isn't really a scrolling platformer game, and I'm not really good at designing scrolling platformer games. Maybe you may want to check out some other scrolling platformer games here on Scratch - demosthenes's God's Quest is a pretty good scroller game that includes enemies. :)
Hi your stuff is really awesome and I'm just starting out! Anyways, I have a "Cooking show" called cooking with scratch! Can you check it out? Maybe I'll use your Hamburger on an episode!
Left should work unless you're standing at the edge of the city limits (if you're at the beginning, pressing left will not work, if you're at the end, pressing right will not work).
Those pictures are super!!!are you a computer artist?too bad it's only a test. if it were a city game,i will tell my friends and ask someone to share it all over the website.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the drawings. I'm not really a computer artist (I'm more of a traditional artist). I know it's only a test, but perhaps, sometime in the future, I can turn this project into something more :)
Ah, I used an image template: I created an image with lines that served like a sketch for the basic architecture and layout for the city so everything is even, following a certain design. In cases where the buildings are split between costumes (like the courthouse), the trick is duplicating the image and flipping the image horizontally; the part of the building I want to keep is left untouched while the rest of the image is manipulated however I want it.
Pretty much everything was drawn by me except for the brick facade of the police station and the firehouse (I took the bricks from one of the images pre-installed with the Scratch interface). And, of course, the Scratch Cat isn't drawn by me either.
Well, it's supposed to be an open smile :D (you can see that in my user page avatar), but here, it looks so small that it looks like it's sticking its tongue out. :P
Lol! Cool project! I just knitted something! Hooray! It is a successful beanbag, it looks like a baby booty though! :( My mom told me to make 3 more and put them on my dog! lol maybe unsuccessful......
Thank you! I'm happy you enjoyed my drawings :) (And you don't have to worry about the smiting Scratch Cat, he only strikes the art thieves who steal images and claim it as theirs ;D )
This project only focuses on scrolling and has no gameplay design to it. You may want to look at demosthenes "God's Quest" as a better example. (link to project)
Don't mind me, just testing the 1.4 palette editor and coding scrolling in Scratch. ---------- Background Design and Program experimentation in Scratch.
Use the Left and Right arrow keys to move left and right and explore the city.
All images created by me. Feel free to use these images for your scratch projects; or if you're more interested in using the code, you're free to use that as well. And tell me where you're using them because I want to see them! :D
BUT CLAIM THE IMAGES AS YOURS AND THE SCRATCH CAT SHALL SMITE THEE WHERE YOU STAND. >:(

nice work! :D i love how you drew everything! ^^
Thank you! I'm glad you like my computer graphics :)
(view all replies)Those are my images (now come and smite me scratch cat XD) BTW did you have an if else block for the direction of movement?
I can't quite remember, but I believe I did add an "if..else" block to prevent the Scratch Cat from walking too far in either direction. For this project, I added a bunch of comments on the scripts to explain everything I did, so you can download this project and see all my explanations on how everything works. ^^
Yo Cheddargirl please can you check out my project - to see what you think!?!?! (link to project) I'm sorry if this is spamming - i forgot :-O

Nice project. Great graphics and scrolling.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed my project! :)
I apologize for the useless comment that follows this sentence: Do you actually like cheese? And is your favorite type of cheese cheddar?
XD, yes, I love cheese! And yes, cheddar is one of my favorite cheese. But, to be honest, my name has nothing to do for my love of cheese... 'cheddar' was actually a nickname of mine a while back. I actually wanted the username 'cheddar' on the Scratch website, but it was already taken, so I had to go with 'cheddargirl' instead.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks! :D
This game is ok but a. maby a little more things and b. the cat goes too slow like he's went to the fish and chips store and eat two half pound burgers lol
Or maybe he ate the burger on top of the store with the fries and shake :D
Yeah, it's not really a game yet, I just wanted to see how scrolling is accomplished in Scratch and how it looks and feels like in the Java player (that's why it's an experiment for now). But thank you very much for the helpful feedback :)
Awesome art
Thanks, tomc123, glad you enjoyed the art. :)
hey, can I use the code too?
Of course you can use the code! Remember, part of the Scratch motto is to share, that's why we have remixes so we can learn and improve form each other; I would love to see what you can do with the code :)
GENIUS!
Thank you, BenDaMan, glad you liked my Scrolling Experiment. :)
can i use the scripts and not the backround?
As to your question as to why many people don't know me too well - archmage was here longer than I was (I joined just last year, so I'm kind of still fairly new).
Go ahead and use the scripts. Remember, part of the Scratch motto is to share; I would love to see what you can do with the code :)
ASOM cool great cool fun happy
Thank you, keeko, happy to hear you enjoyed the project! :D
AAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I started the game at my grandma's house and shared it so I could finish it at home, but I can't download it!!! D8<
Aww, sorry to hear about that. I hope you get the downloading problem resolved soon! *crosses fingers*
(view all replies)I think I'm gonna make a game out of this where you get to be a detective! Wanna be friends?

Do you know any way I could put other sprites that don't scroll? (like enamies)
Hmm... this project isn't really a scrolling platformer game, and I'm not really good at designing scrolling platformer games. Maybe you may want to check out some other scrolling platformer games here on Scratch - demosthenes's God's Quest is a pretty good scroller game that includes enemies. :)

I guess I could make the cat walk faster. Thank you, glad you enjoyed the project, and I appreciate the feedback! :D
Wow. Very very nice graphics. Great way of using the paint editor!
Thank you, Penguinsrock! :)
I love the smooth scrolling, the last paragraph in the project notes, and your new signature!
Thank you, Chrischb! :D Happy you enjoyed the project, and that you had fun reading that paragraph and siggy. :)

Thank you, werdna, I'm happy that you enjoyed my mouse drawings; they sure took a long time to make! :)
(view all replies)awesome!
lol, scratch smite, lol. how did you make the background look so clean? and even?

(view all replies)Your icon pulled a tongue at me....
Well, it's supposed to be an open smile :D (you can see that in my user page avatar), but here, it looks so small that it looks like it's sticking its tongue out. :P
Can I use one of those backgrounds for my project?
Oh go ahead, I don't mind, just remember to leave a link to your project because I want to see it :)
Lol! Cool project! I just knitted something! Hooray! It is a successful beanbag, it looks like a baby booty though! :( My mom told me to make 3 more and put them on my dog! lol maybe unsuccessful......
Cool, a knitted beanbag! Not quite sure your dog will appreciate wearing the booties, though (unless, of course, your dog like to wear booties).
(view all replies)i like the background!
Thanks! :)
your a great artist! btw did you draw these with scratch?
Yes, I drew them all in the Scratch Paint editor. Took me a long time considering I drew them with a mouse (no tablet :P).
nice images!
Thanks :D
Great drawings!
Thank you! Happy you enjoyed my drawings :)
the drawings are great! where did you make them?
I made them in the Scratch Paint editor. ;D
(view all replies)nice drawings :D haha and I will look out for the smiting scratch cat.
Thank you! I'm happy you enjoyed my drawings :) (And you don't have to worry about the smiting Scratch Cat, he only strikes the art thieves who steal images and claim it as theirs ;D )
(view all replies)very coolioso!! u should make it interactive!
Yeah, I know. It would be awesome if viewers can do things like enter into stores. :)
(view all replies)how do you make a scrolling game?
This project only focuses on scrolling and has no gameplay design to it. You may want to look at demosthenes "God's Quest" as a better example. (link to project)
(view all replies)download this project and see how she scrolls
that good how do you do the scrolling its cool
Thanks :)
I like to stroll along the streets. There is so much to look. The drawings are very beautiful.
Oh, thank you very much. I glad you enjoyed my little scrolling project. :)
