I've been given the opportunity to be the first ever Scratch curator for a week (EDIT: The length of time a person is curator has now been extended to two weeks, as recently decided by the Scratch Team)
However, I am finding that so many people are:
1) confusing the word 'curator' for 'creator'.
2) adding me to their friends list or commenting on my projects instead of the ones I feature.
3) spamming me with requests to look at their projects.
As curator, I took time out to look for projects that were interesting, unusual, and perhaps not viewed enough by the Scratch community. So please take the time out to view and look over other people's projects. Thank you.

I admit, some of the projects that you've chosen aren't really appealing, but some are!!! I'll try looking at them, but only if they look interesting enough!! =D

Sometimes it gets tiring, but I like to find those 'hidden gems' out of many Scratch projects; it's amazing how many interesting and unusual projects I can find on the Scratch website with a little hard work and persistence. (off topic: Just curious, did you name yourself after the enemy from 'Lego Island'? I loved that game).

Well, the spam has seemed to settle down a bit after this project was released, so it's not so bad as it was before when my name on the front page was still clickable. (still requires patience though! ^^ )

Ooh, I think we might be thinking of two different things (the account I was thinking of wasn't called WorldOfScratch). This is the first time I've ever heard of something like that, and it sounds kind if silly (isn't this website already a Scratch nation? ^^)

Yeah, I know. The spam is just really annoying, I'm trying to surf the Scratch website without getting a message every 30 minutes or so asking em to feature a project. Curator is a big job, I hope that whoever is the next curator will be able to handle the extra attention and spam.

I hate spam too! I made a project called Please Stop Spamming, and somebody just spammed all over it to annoy me!!
Unfortunately we can't stop all spam. :( But there's always the oh-so-awesome 'flag as inappropriate' link at the bottom of each spam comment :D

Well, thanks, but I really don't find this project that good. ^^; I've always thought my 'Eat the Crabs' game was pretty good. This project was just the only way I could think of to get my message out to the masses.

Perhaps, but out of all the friends who added me, none of them asked me to look at their faves, many of them asked me to fave theirs (usually new and freshly uploaded), which makes me upset sometimes. :( I'm doing my best to look for old and unique projects that have few love its and few faves that deserve some recognition, not new projects that fit the criteria of what is popular nowadays.

(view all replies)Ever since I became curator, I'm getting so many friend requests that I'm afraid that people are just adding me to the friends list without looking over the featured projects, or it could even perhaps be a ruse to get me to look at their projects to be featured (that is, it's possible that they think that by adding me to the friends list I will feature their projects). Do you understand?

homstarfan's post is misleading. I'm not a moderator nor am I really a close friend of one (or anyone on the Scratch Team). The Scratch Team chooses curators from those who apply for it in the forum thread (see the 'Announcements' section), and they pick users from this list based on their character and their actions towards the Scratch community.
