This is a type of thermometer, developed by Galileo, where you estimate the temperature by looking at the colored bulbs and looking at the lowest bulb that moves toward the top, and the highest bulb that moves toward the bottom, and averaging the two. You can modify the temperature of the liquid in the enclosure as well as the min and max densities of the bulbs. Nerd stuff: The thermometer works due to the differing boyancies resulting from differences in densities between the working fluid and the various bulbs, which are adjusted (usually by attaching weights to the bottom), to achieve an effective density for that bulb. For ME nerds: The density is more or less g/cm^3 x 1000, though i estimated it as a linear formula because i'm lazy...
