I think I have a way to gain intelligence, the first game, he loses. OK. Now, then it tries to not to pick all of the same ones on the same turn. It either loses or wins. If it wins, then it uses the same movement. Otherwise, it would eliminate and try not to do the "forbidden" moves and make new ones.
This is great! I played mancala a lot when I visited New Zealand. My only question was, is classic mancala played with three gems or four? When I played it, it was with four.
I think it's played with four, because it has been proven that the player that goes first can always win with three, assuming he/she plays perfectly (kinda like with tic tac toe)
That gobo does not play very well...I beat it by double digit differences both times. And I'm very much a beginner. But it was fun! I'm assuming you get another turn if your last gem of your current turn ends up in your store? That's what seemed to be happening.
I didn't play it at all until recently. It's actually very complicated to master (although the 3-gem version has been "solved" mathematically like tic-tac-toe). We originally thought up this project as a possible "competition" project where Scratchers would come up with their own player, and they would all compete to see who would win (the input: number of gems per bin, the output: a selected bin number 1-6). Problem is, without arrays it becomes almost intractable, so I left it AI-less for now...
This is one of the best games on scratch I've ever played! How did you make it? You know the scripts. Grear project! Post a reply when you anser my question. Thanks! Mariotornado- :D
It's not really as hard as it looks. The tricky part is keeping track of where the gems are, then using stamps to move the gems so you don't need a billions sprites. After that, it's easy. The trick is going to be adding some intelligence to player 2, which my 8-year-old is working on :)
lol. the "AI" is actually just this: "look like you're thinking, then pick a bin randomly." luckily, since there are only six choices, it works out ok. i will probably add two more levels of AI eventually.
You are probably better than me in a number of ways. Once you've had a few programming courses this sort of stuff will be easy for you.
Download this project!
Download the 24 sprites and 55 scripts of "Gobo Mancala" and open it in Scratch
Project Notes
MANCALA
Play Mancala with Gobo! Click on "Help" to see full directions, but generally you click on one of the six bins closest to you when it is your turn, and they are "sown" counterclockwise around the board. The game is over when one whole side of the board is cleared. The player with the most gems in their "store" (the two ends of the board), PLUS the number of gems on their side of the board, wins. ---
Gobo is not a very good player, but in later revs may get a bit smarter :) This includes a lot of widgets collected by widgetfarmer1.

(view all replies)I love mancal! I beat the gobo 7-27. This game is flawless! But I agree with Paddle2See, the gobo doesn't play very well.
I won 22-9
Yeah. He plays like a distracted baby monkey (i.e., randomly). When I get some time I'll make him/it smarter.
I won! Woot!
How did you do that? I'm really good at mancala so I won!
i lost and it said i won
Well, remember that you get points for anything on your side of the board in addition to what is in your store. I always forget about that too...
(view all replies)This is great! Mancala is a great game, isn't it? All your projects seem to be top-of-the-line! Good job!
Awesome!
I love mancala! I play it with my cousin sometoimes.
I play it alot too!

Yes and yes.
Hmm. Never played Mancala very much before...but this looks like fun!

I won, and I was trying to lose! :P
Yeah. Gobo needs to learn at least a little strategy.
I started with four gems per bin and I won, yet again :P Sorry, I'll stop spamming...
w00t! I win again :P I've been playing Mancala for a long time (surprising, I'm extremely young), so really, I'm not surprised :P
I love Mancala! I won, too :D Favourite and love-it!
Aww, Gobo beat me, I'll play battle jojo again! This is just beautiful, you're really using these widgets, cool!

LOL he (it) beat me! Very well done!
Wait till I get some AI in player2, then watch out...
how did u do the AI?

(view all replies)I love playing mancala! I used to play it all the time with my family! we even have a travel board that folds!
Yeah. Me too. It's actually a very complicated game, given how simple the rules are.
Wow!
This is sooooooo cool! i wish i was as good as u :-)
