Not sure how much more you want to do with it...but one possiblity is to have the boat crash if the boom suddenly snaps from one side to the other as the boat gybes (brings the wind from one side to the other as it is heading downwind). A gybe can be a very dangerous move, if the boom isn't hauled in tight when the wind switches side. That boom snaps across the boat and can break the boat or send crew members over the side!
I like the changes! The boom is acting much more realisticly now in that it won't go upwind. I'm not totally sure of the speed as a function of the boom angle though...seems like in a cross wind the boom should be a bit tighter to the wind for max speed - but I haven't done a whole lot of sailing so I'm not positive.
pretty cool sailing sim. Maybe you could add wind direction and speed to make it more challenging. Btw if you haven't, you should look at BYOB (build your own blocks) a new scratch version that pwns.
I agree with Paddle2see (rhymes lol)! I also really like the feature that you are able to adjust the sail! I'm having a lot of fun with this simulation!
Very cool! I love how you can adjust the sail too, that is neat. I'm not sure you should be able to adjust the sail to the point where the boat sails backwards though... :) I suppose you could force the boom up against the wind by hand somehow...but normally you are controlling it with ropes that don't work that way.
I have just modified this to make the controls different.
Navigate two laps around the course using the arrows keys. Left and Right to steer, Up and down to let the sail out or pull it in.

I know, my boom got torn off once cuz of that. Funny, I always thought it was spelled "jibe". Oh well, live and learn
(view all replies)Wow, you know a lot about sailing, does that have anything to do with your username?
