Yeah, but I think most people would prefer to look at all of their values in a list. I could make something that would show a certain variable when you clicked a button, but still it isn't as nice as showing a proper list.
one way of not having too many variables on the screen would be to have a display variable which keeps changing to show different variables. One minute it would should hp then gold etc.
Well, this RPG engine has many variables. There are the five stat points which would take 2 characters each to reccord. There is gold and experience which are about 5 characters each. There is the items in the inventory which is one character for each inventory spot. Then there is 1 character to save the game's progress. This would be increased if there is more than 1 party member.
the variables is a serious problem. i very much doubt passwords would have to be anywhere near that long but your right that it would be a large project to make.
Well, the first RPG game I tried was very poorly coded and unmanageable. Really I am not even sure if a scratch RPG would work out in scratch. First, there are the variable displays that cannot be easily hidden. Second there is the problem of saving data (because most respectable RPGs take more than 1 sitting to finish. I could make a password system but the passwords would probably be ridiculously long (20-100 characters). Making the game wouldn't necessarily be more difficult just much more time consuming. I am not quite sure if I want to spend 50+ hours on a megaproject at the moment.
You having been making fairly decent rpg engines for a while now, are you ever actually going to make a complete rpg. i dont mean to sound rude just interested. in manyways making the game is harder than the engine.
