I am guessing that you are sick of the slide. To fix this you have to use the sidescrolling engine v2.1. In that project you will see a block that says "set x velocity to( xvelocity*0.9)" change that to "set x velocity to( xvelocity*0.1) and make your run speed variable 10 times as big.
i just finished my sidescrolling engine with sliding (few) after fixing like 5 million porblems in the programming but i didnt get a single bit of help from anyone excepy how to make the left end a rigth end disappear but the sprite can still touch it.
hey archmage! Can u help me make super tudly 2? i am haveing lots of trouble witht he scrolling! please help me make a scrolling engin and i can do the rest but i dont know how to make any good, multilevel scrolling game! help!
Everyone, I need help creating a platformer that doesn't require 5 zillion variables and won't take up like 500,000 megabytes. Anyone with a simple platforming script that u wouldn't mind me borrowing?
Hmm, you must be one of the better programmers here. But if you ever do need assistance, don't hesitate to ask me, got 3 years of programming experience (Pascal, UnrealScript, C++, even with a batch file I created a simple game :P)
The number of spites used for scrolling is not that important. I just used several area sprites because it was easier to organize. Also this project has some fairly advanced scrolling features such as slide scrolling and and back scrolling and accelerated running scrolling and it gives the player a bit of non-scrolling room in the center. These things are unique to this project and are not found in any other scrolling engine programmed in scratch (that i know of). Most scrolling engines I've seen and just basic one speed one way scrollers. I have also created a basic one way scroller that handles background picture scrolling exceptionally well and it can be found @ (link to project).
Also this is not a game, it is a game engine and is meant to be modified and users in games created by others.
Also if you have criticism about this project PLEASE tell me whats wrong with it instead of saying "I don't think it's perfect" so I can improve it. Also keep in mind that because of the limitations of scratch it is impossible to create a true "perfect" side scrolling engine in scratch.
The "project" Has a point, it's background scrolling.
Though I don't think it's perfect.
My Project "Mario Scrolling Engine" Only uses 2 sprites for scrolling.
That is awful good!!!!!
Btw:I hope you dont mind, but i copied your scrolling back round for my "RC Flight Master game."I gave you all the credit,BTW! Thanks.

People please do not leave stupid comments like "What the hell!!11" and "It's dum I don't like it." because such comments are not constructive in any way and will be deleted by myself. If you have a problem with the program please tell me the problem and tell me how you think the program should work.
All objects must be moved using the the variable "platforms". So set x of object to "platforms" and if you want it to move about have a local variable called movement and do this: forever set x to "platforms"+"movement". I will update it to demonstrate.
Because I meant for the project to be used by other people so that can change stuff and make their own. If you change the costumes of platforms 1-5 you could create your own game.

There's a big glitch. If you set the speed to 50 and go back and forth over and over, the platform rips apart. Lol. It was kinda funny.

I have many scrolling examples. Check them out.

Yes, you can use this, and no it can scroll 4 ways but there are other engines that can.
(view all replies)Comment Reply
Would it be possible to make it scroll four ways? (up, down, left, right) And if it is, could I use this for a game?
