i support remixing but sometimes, its nice just to have the original copy! thats why ppl dont want you to remix it! because ppl then will just look at remix version and not the one you created because theirs is better! how would you like it if you worked on something for like forever! and then somebody else comes in, edited a tiny little thing and got all the credit! and everybody likes thiers better! wont it kind of annoy you?
I stumbled upon this when browsing he site for projects. The idea of remixing reminded me of Issac Newton's quote: "If I have seen farther than others, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants". It is after all, by analyzing and building upon the ideas of others before us that much progress can be made and much progress has been made. The idea of being able to remix projects is an innovative idea, I'm glad Scratch has implemented it throughout the website. :)
Thanks! That quote from Newton fits well on the idea of of remixing. Remixing seems popular in the Scratch community when it comes to projects made to be remixed but not so much for projects that were not made to be remixed. I wish this could change.
i think remixing is good, but of course like everything that is good, it can be abused, ice cream is good, but when you eat too much ice cream... well you get the idea, i just wish there was a way to stop remixing simply for malicious intent and remixing to create better projects. also on a completely unrelated topic, would you mind commenting on this forum post? (link to forum)">(link to forum) alot of people seem interested and i dont see any problems with the idea myself.
Thanks. i am making my companys website soon and will add it to my website then. i was just hopeing that i could put the game on scratch without having the download option. there are some people that have waited a long time ON scratch and i dont know if they will look at MY website.
ok. my issue is that i would like to ask permission from the scratch administration specifically for taking of the download option on a specific project. i have been working for almost a year on it in scratch and have put so much work into it, i dont want anyone stealing it or messing with it. if not, i wont put it on the scratch website. is that possible?
Scratch is about sharing. We want people to download other people's projects to learn from them and remix them if they want. At the end everyone benefits from it. You can learn more about the philosphy behind it here: http://info.scratch.mit.edu/License_to_play">http://info.scratch.mit.edu/License_to_play
When other people use your creations they should give you credit. If this is not something you agree with you can certainly avoid sharing your project on the website. You could try putting it on your own website.
Most of the time on Scratch I don't. Lots of people just upload other peoples projects without changing them, especially newbies uploding sample projects that came with scratch
Andresmh! U r my idol! Please comment back. I would love it if you would take time out of your busy schedule to see my gallery "Real Pokemon!" and it would be my dream for you to possibly make make a real (edited) pokemon. PLEASE! I BEG OF YOU!

OMG!!!!! THE MAGIC AGE FINDER IS FEATURED!!!!! 1st, what is featured? what does it mean? and 2nd, IT HAS MORE VIEWS THAN OTHER TOP VIEWED!!!! WHAT'S WITH THAT??? MY FIRST FRONT PAGE, AND I'M ONLY FEATURED!!! I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!!!!! CAN YOU MAKE IT SO I'M TOP VIEWED, BECAUSE RIGHT NOW I HAVE APPROX 168 VIEWS!!!! AND IT'S NOT AN OLD PROJECT EITHER!!!! please reply soon or I'll go even more nuts!!!!!!
Congrats on getting featured. We set up our website to try to avoid having one project showing up multiple times on the front page. This gives more people the change to be seen.
Yep! I agree remixing and sharing is not only good for scratch but has been bettering mankind for like ever. Though if someone remix's and tries to pass it of as their's that is not good :)
Hey there! You may not have been around on Scratch around March 2008, but there were the 1st Annual Scratch Awards hosted by Funkymonkey. Anyways, this year I'm hosting the 2nd Annual Scratch Awards. But I need publicity. So I just wanted to ask if you could take a look at the gallery and forum thread and see what you think. You don't have too, but it would be great if you could maybe feature the gallery. The 1st Scratch Awards were featured last year. Thanks. And sorry to spam.
actual remixed PROJECT, that says based off so and so's work. That way, the link below the project isn't ignored. I like the "based on somebody's project" idea, but I think it needs work so that there is absolutely no doubt that the person started the idea. ANYWAY, I typed up my suggestions for sub-topics here: (link to forum)">(link to forum) if you still want to look at them.
Like FantasyTales, I have mixed feelings on the remix system. In almost all circumstances, I support remixing because it is a constructive way to improve ideas. But you almost always get those people who share the same project with the same project notes and the same EXACT idea. I just wish there was a way to stop that. I don't think it is fair for you to put in hours of hard work and another person to put in little to none and share the views. If it were up to me, I would have a screen on the
I'm sorry to say that i dissagree. Countless people have remixed my projects without giving me a single amout of credit, without even asking, and making them disturbing and innapropriate and rude. that reely gets on my nerves when the do that.
Thanks for sharing your opinion. How do you think would be the best way to give you credit? A comment? A note? Was the remix showing "Based on kaotheroogoncreator's project"?
which i find to be well quite irritating. On the other hand i am quite glad that it displays the based on sign because the scratcher who day pay attention might be interested in seeing who made the original, and thats always good :)
in some circumstances i support remixing, but in others i don't. I like it when scratchers build on ideas, and learn from other projects, but i don't like it when people who remix just copy the exact same game and try to take credit for it. It's because of things like that, that i sometimes wish for scratchers to be given a choice as to wether or not they allow others to remix their projects. True it will still say based on, but i have found that some people will just ignore that...
Please look at this suggestion for a future scratch and tell me what you think. Tell the truth, I don't care if you don't like it. Thanks. (link to forum)">(link to forum)
i totally agree! ive had people do it to myself and it gets really annoying! (sorry to ask but I would also please like to know how to do a link to project)
I agree too, however, some people will download a project, do absolutley NOTHING to the project, and upload it. Then, they say that THEY created it, and delete every comment that says something like "you didn't make this."

Yeah... Some people just don't like you remixing their stuff. I don't really mind :)
I made a project inspired by this one: (link to project)">(link to project) I remixed! I support it ! :)
Your right

I LOVE THIS PIC 4 EVER

thanks! Spread the word pro-remixing ;)
how do we get scratch cat?
good point.

For me, the idea of remixing is the most powerful characteristic of "Scratch Community"! Congratulations!
thanks dapontes!

*browsing 'the' site for projects* - yet another silly typo I overlooked.

(view all replies)Hey Andres! :D Nice to see you! I just found a nice little gallery I'd like to suggest for possible featuring: (link to project)">(link to project)
I remixed a project and improved it. I made sure I gave credit. The person I remixed it from said I stole it. THAT IS SO ANOYING!!!
that's too bad, it takes some time for people to understand the value of remixing.
what happened to this project? Theres like 30 loveits with only 5 views (link to project)">(link to project)
well um...it's alright as long as they don't mess it up in a bad way lol
i lurve remixing. it makes you feel awesome. i often make sure they give credit tho.
How do you make it come up 'Based on .....'s project'? And how do you make links to projects? Thank you! :) :D
The "Based on" is automatic. And to create links all you need is to copy the address on the address bar (the part that starts with http://scratch.mit.edu/">http://scratch.mit.edu/
(view all replies)i don't think you should give credit for EVERYTHING.I mean... there is spelled (user) shared it (month) (weeks) and based on (user)'s project

The force of the remix lives on.
I updated the Scratch awards advertisement.

Its ok if the person asks. But when they take the project and do all the bad stuff they can to it, i get pretty upset!
I'm the same like Jamie! But I wouldn't want them to erase the whole project I made.. XD That makes me furious!!!!!!!
I totally agree. You can remix my project all you want. What I DON'T like is when people remix and call it their own.

Could you do me a favor and look at this, I did a lot of work and no ones commented.
me 2 Its annoying how people yell at u!
