"Dear user, we just deleted your years of hardwork and labor that you worked so hard to get 5838 views, because someone was offended by the word "God." Please remember your projects will be viewed by people of many different backgrounds, including sensitive 3 year olds, and their overprotective mothers. We didn't want to get sued, so we deleted your project. Have a good day. Scratch on!"
I am too ZannessaFan (christadelphian) and swearing is a disgusting use of language. Swear words aren't blasphemous, but they have disgusting meanings the people like us won't think about saying.
i am a christian (a catholic to be specific) and a kid under the age of 12 now my parents say that if i come across any swear words and not tell them NO MORE SCRATCH so listen we need to be able to have kids watch scratch with out having to go to the forums page report a project and/or a comment i believe in Lord Jesus Christ And in angels and saints scratch will have less and less viewers and therefore end in no viewers AT ALL! what if that happened and it CAN HAPPEN look what happened to youtube they had so few users (compared to what they has before haha) that they had to let GOOGLE BUY THEM AND CHANGE YOUTUBE! what if a strange company bought the scratch website and only let adults on scratch and let them show very bad vidoes! it would mean that there would be no cutie little kid newcomer projects and no learning. then think if the cussing got so out of hand they made all adults leave and then kids would have no projects to look at to help them, no awesome and complicated projects for them to watch in awe and wonder and still NO LEARNING! just read this and think. I would hate that to happen wouldn't you?
anarki, I actually liked your project (and I was the first one to admit it). It was somewhat provocative, but also fun. Now, some people might consider swearing offensive and inappropriate in front of kids, which in turn micht lead to parents not allowing their kids to use Scratch. That would be a real pity. So, why don't you just - once again - make fun out of what's happending here. How about reposting your project and letting the guy-sprite 'say' something along the line: 'Hey God, let's see what happens if I use inapropriate language...' Then, once lightening strikes you could turn the guy into the Scratch-Cat for eternal penance... (just kidding). Honstly, why not repost it without swearing?
Mayhem, face it: kids will learn cuss words. And they will use them. They learn them from their parents, they learn them from their video games, they learn them from TV, they learn them from friends, and they learn them from all sorts of other places that I can't think of right now. I agree with anarki; the people that thought this was inappropriate, please step up and say why you thought this way.
Also, when you say that you don't care about children, by showing them these things then you are just turning them into mindless loser that cuss all the time and are a total well loser. By showing kids that it is o.k. to do things that are totaly not o.k. to do. Try to be a civilized person, using words that are o.k. or everyone. Scratch was made to teach kids about programming, not for adults to have a place to blow off their steam, by putting together a show that will obviously offend people. And though I have never seen it, I can tell that it is something that I don't want to see, because last tie I checked, kids were the future, and if it were up to people like you, the future would a bunch of fat people sitting on their couches swearing all the time.
I think that if Scratch thinks that this project is inaproprete then I say, deal with it. If you want people to see your project, just take out the stuff that you don't want people to see. No big deal. Anarki, I think that you are just being a baby over the whole thing. If you want your project to be seen, all you have to do is take out the bad word and reload. When people see that it is back I am sure that people will just come again to see it.
I think that the fact that some people dislike or deem inappropriate something else should just say to the people who don't like to just not look at the project. That way the rest of us can see it and appreciate the hard work put in to it.
I am quite sick of swearing. It's a bad way to let you anger go. And swearers do that so often, they take it for granted, which is difinately not a good thing.
friendly: I do not cheat. the link to the project is up on the net, even though the project was removed. people still click on it, just like you did.
others: it seems the problem was not the overall message, it was a four-letter word that no one here dares to write down ;) Neither will I, take a guess. Hint: James Joyce used it four times in Ulysses.
well.....let me think.....how many kids swear at my school and talk about pervy things...? at least 30...cuz frankly more and more kids are starting to go swearing and talk about pervy things....i have no idea why but its a fact...the only way you could ever keep a kid away from this is if u sent him to a privte school and didnt let him watch tv, have internet, or really be out and about....the kid would have to be isolated. so all im saying is that more younger kids are geting in to this stuff....they also have internet so the probaly come here often - _ -
Quote Anarki "I'm not aware of the number of children visiting this site, and frankly, I couldn't care less." Great attitude, given that this is a programming language and environment created specifically with young children in mind. If your project used swearing, then it deserved to be taken down.

anarki,
If you are offended by this, We are sorry,
this is only meant as advertising on good project to generate views and loveits! Please by all means, delete it if you do not like this!
Well, I read anarchis post when it got removed, sorry about the slightly harsh comment, from that I just learned that I can't judge a game by it's title. But I still keep my word about the swearing.
I can see from the title it is extremely disrespectful. The people who would have flagged could be christians, I probably wo8uld have too, And swearing is what's going to bother a lot of us as well.
It was pretty stupid to have this removed--and I too notice that all the people who flagged it as inappropriate are too big cowards to actually leave comments on what bothers them. i would be very interested to know what made them angry. People can just avoid it or tell their kids to avoid it if they are so worried about its content.
I also would be interested in knowing what exactly was it that bothered all those people who flagged the project that caused it to be censored. My guess is that it was the language. I would really like to see this project again on-line without the swearing to see if the community is OK with it.
I'm not aware of the number of children visiting this site, and frankly, I couldn't care less. Children who are mature enough to produce code, even on Scratch, should be able to judge for themselves what's inappropriate content and what's not. Remember, they are not idiots, they are just kids. That said, I'd be really happy to see all those offended children getting involved in this discussion, arguing for or against what the game's about, calling me names if they wish. Well, one of the drawbacks of arbitrary, thoughtless censorship is that they won't be able to judge anything by themselves - simply because the game was removed. By adults, I believe.
Also, if you thought about what the game was trying to say, you'd be surprised. To put it straight, what it said was that if you curse God, you'll pay the price no matter how you try to dodge the lightning. Have you tried? HAve you managed? If this by any standards is an inappropriate message, I'd like to see those standards carved in stone. "Strong language" and "violence", Toad? That's probably GTA you're talking about, played by happy kids around the world, thank you.
And to the hostile remarks that have nothing to do with the subject matter: no, I don't play around with proxies, and I don't vote on myself. The views were generated by readers who clicked on the links in my article, intended to present and, if possible, popularize Scratch (3045 page views as we speak, mission accomplished on my part ;).
I am not offended at all, this is a silly game with less than mediocre code behind it - I had fun putting it together, thanks, Scratch people. But I don't think removing content of this kind does any good to your cherished community - it was just a thoughtless, arbitrary act of censorship. Now, would you reconsider?
As you would say: Thank you and Scratch on!
tsk, You don't care about the ages of kids? Well, let me just say this to ur face! There are A lot of young people on this site! So if ur going to go and poisen thew minds of little kids, do it somewhere else!
Hmm... i would like to play smthing on scratch. This is my first time on scratch. Now i can't play. Project was removed. Scratch does not satisfy me. Is it ok for scratch that i can't play? Children will learn curses anyway, and they are really not interested in these things. Adults ARE interested. Scratch is a page I won't visit again.
I loved this game. I've just come back to play it again.
Have you ever heard about first amendment? Kids also have first amendment rights.
Anyway thanks Anarki.
I think you are missing the point of what makes this inappropriate. Regardless, of its symbolic meaning, this is still a website whose members are also children. If the website was for mature adults or had an adult section for the games/projects that have strong language and/or violence then I’m sure your game would be more than welcomed. Furthermore, for “ascourbe” to compare this game to Michelangelo's Moses is not only laughable but a false analogy. By the way, it’s odd that you have over 2824 views and only one person loved it? Is that one person you?...you don’t have to answer that. Moreover, it’s impossible to get that many views in such a short period in time? What you do, use proxies?
This could be a great discussion! The story created by this down on his luck guy, angry with the world, vainly trying to fight the inevitable (however you might name it) does come across.
Still, given how personal and sensitive people are about their beliefs, the presence of such a young audience here on scratch, and your use of swearing (however mild it might be) it doesn't seem surprising that people find it inappropriate?
...Anyone else?
a big F to all Victorian, fascistic members, who think people are not able to decide for themselves, what is appropriate, and need to feel they "God-given" power to ban something, what they might have misjudged. I think you all should ask the Vatican to remove Michelangelo's Moses from the Saint Peter cathedral, as it has - inappropriately - HORNS on its head.
the horn were caused by a miss-translation in the bible. i the original hebrew version, it said that moses beamed, and they accidently translated it to "moses horned." so they made the statue that way.

Well, to Mayhems earlier comment, children like me, have seen it.
I'm pretty sure James Joyce wasn't writing for children. By default, anything you submit to this website should be.
poo-poo!

is there any possibility in getting this anyway to form its own opinion? This is a free country at last, or not?
